Napkins and Sugar Packets

This thread is inspired from CB’s thread on hoarding. I’m not exactly sure how the two are related except that she mentioned ketchup packets and it reminded me of someone I know that invariably “collects” napkins and packets of sugar at every opportunity to do so from restaurants…

If you happen to ask for a cup of tea or coffee at this person’s home, she will present you with the requested beverage and offer you a variety of sugar packets labelled with “MacDonald’s”, “Tim Hortons”, etc, etc.

Should you encounter a small spill or need a napkin to wipe your bootha you will be presented with one from any number of local fast food shops…

Know anyone like this?
What do they “gather”?

Re: Napkins and Sugar Packets

lololol thats what we call the desi-pan :cb:

I know a friend, she has a fetish for all kinds of free stuff that she can get her hands on! that includes even picking up a few disposable glasses !

I remember going to costa with her a few times and she just totally went crazy on the straws and stir sticks !

The thing is if someone is a collector and are doing it within reason thats fine for example, sometimes we get extra tissues for the table, after we are done with the meal, instead of throwing those tissues away , we just carry them with us .. thats reasonable .. but when you actually go and get a handful from the serving table of the store, thats bad !

erm , presenting the stuff to the guests , a completely foolish thing to do !

Re: Napkins and Sugar Packets

we never did but once we became parents we discovered that only way to keep our babies to instantly stop crying was to give them Starbucks green straws and wooden stir sticks....sadly we cannot survive without these any longer!!!
I 'stocked' up my diaper bag the other day while getting a latte :(

Re: Napkins and Sugar Packets

nonsense. what if the guest is a connoisseur/muftkhor like the host too? and what if he/she couldnt make it to starbucks for their special pumpkin print napkins, but now gets offered a couple at this glorious chai ceremony?

Re: Napkins and Sugar Packets

oh yes Queer , we dont wanna break the muftkhor guests heart now , do we:cb:

Re: Napkins and Sugar Packets

we have someone who throws dawats but it is like he owns chains of food stores. on his duster-khan you will find mcdo ketchup packets, napkins..etc

Re: Napkins and Sugar Packets

Ahhh the number & variety of straws I have collected for my kid...:D.She loves them..!!
But they stay in the diaper bag only..!

Re: Napkins and Sugar Packets

Me personally I'm too embarrassed to take more than my fair share, I know some desi's are known to grab handfuls and stock up on taco bell sauce packets.

Re: Napkins and Sugar Packets

lol...hahahaha...i saw one uncle take almost half a small brown bagful of Splenda packages at Wendy's...since, splenda is quite expensive as compared to other brands, his Burger Value Meal was for FREE that day! hahaha...

one more thing: he looked around before he filled the bag...this makes it outright stealing! no?

Re: Napkins and Sugar Packets

^ see thats what I call excessive misuse of a facility. If someone takes a couple of them for later use , thats understandable but if someone starts filling a bag , I wouldnt call it stealing coz its for free anyways but its quite distasteful and against the etiquette

To me collecting means when you are left with an extra sachet or two in your meal tray .. and instead of throwing it off you keep them .. for example, in my case we get two ketchup sachets per head in our meal tray .. so we eat one and keep the other .. and thats about it , that way we are not being unfair to the restaurant as well while also saving a sachet or two for our own personal need later on ..

I have seen people go bonkers over Candarel sachets too ..

Re: Napkins and Sugar Packets

My aunt went to Hajj through PIA flight, they serve tea or coffe or other eatables during jounrney. And she has collected spoon a plastic one small size , and fork .
She said she liked it much and they were extra and instead of throwing them she has taken with herself. And nw using in masala when serving to guest. No brand or any mention on them and it looks pretty.
No only this , she also has collected shooping bag that she has done in SAUDIA, caz they hv gud stuff.

Re: Napkins and Sugar Packets

I love the plastic cutlery that is provided inflight .. I usually travel via Emirates or Etihad , both offer very good quality plastic cutlery .. and very often if I havnt used the spoons or knife , I keep them too .. they are really useful ..
