Nanny?

There have been a few daycare topics here, but one of the options we’re thinking about is a nanny or a nanny share situation. Anyone have experience with this? My thought was to go around to some of the good day cares in the area and try to steal one of their care providers. Unethical? Yes! Makes my life easy? HELL YEAH!

But what are your experiences if you have any?

Re: Nanny?

I have hired nannies to come to my home when I've had to go somewhere and have had them come to my hotel if we have been out of town. I usually go through a certified agency. I've done that several times and I love it. Some of the nannies work full time at peoples homes on a regular basis, and from what I hear, it is a great arrangement because you have a dedicated person taking care of your child in the comfort of your own home. These ladies have a complete background check, police and driving record, they are CPR certified, first aid certified and are trained in several areas of child education and development.

You can Google for Nanny Services in your town, and set up some interviews.

Childcare not daycare.....

Re: Nanny?

Most of the mothers in my town have a nanny. Mostly live-ins, some full time day nannies and some part-time nannies. The live-ins get a smaller salary because their living expenses are included. Most of the live-ins are foreigners and go to evening college classes. The ones who do daily care are paid hourly. All of them that I've met are very nice and very caring of the children they take care of. And most parents get them thru Nanny agencies. I dont know about taking a local day-care center worker....unless you have seen all the paperwork for yourself that references were indeed checked and what their background is etc.

If you have the funds for day-care or Nanny, its a tough choice. In many ways, its grreat for little ones to be around others their own age. They learn in a somewhat structured environment and are more than ready for school when the time comes. They do get exposed to more germs so will have more illness in their early years. But docs say that this helps build the immune system. In many other ways, its grreat for a little one to stay in the security and comfort of their own home with little adventures to playgrounds etc. You have to be aware about the moral/religious values and beleifs of your nanny because they will certainly have much influence on your child. Not sure which I'd choose...mine are all in school now, pre-k thru first grade so I guess its a moot point and even if I won lotto this week, I wouldnt really have a need lol. But certainly a housekeeper/cook/laundry person would be at the top of my list!
