I’ve heard rave reviews about how delicious this dish is but I have never had it myself, someone who recently arrived from Pakistan was talking about it again last night and I got curious again, but they didn’t know the recipe. Has anybody had this before, I think you do not use red chilli in it, and it is made with whipped yogurt with minimal spices?
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
namkeen gosht? kia gosht meeThaa bhii hotaa hai? never heard of that! ![]()
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
Lol, that is definitely something worth pondering about! Its the name of a dish, I have only heard of it, not tasted it …
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
i’ve heard of this … though never had it.
i think its made only with salt, blk pepper, green chilli, vinegar, water n oil …
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
ahaaN…i get it! it’s some kinda ‘mysterious’ dish that we have yet to discover! ![]()
btw, have you ever tried something that you never saw in your life and that looked weird? ![]()
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…

Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
^I hate when that happens…when something goes into your mouth and you wish it didn’t!!!
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
EXACTLY!
btw, is namkeen gosht a punjabi dish?
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
Basically, the recipe for namkeen gosht is same as the regular ghost…u put the onions, salt, garlic/ginger paste and water cook it till the gosht is cooked add oil, Rene pepper and a 1/2 tomatoe…fry it till u can see the oil and then add black peppers and eNO haldi and dania
also u don’t even need to add it but if u like it jus add1/2 not too much cuz namkeen gosht is not suppose to be Maslay daar
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
PG, i recently bought a box of "Salt N Pepper’ chicken wings from M&M Meat Shop here. it’s extremely salty…i cooked one serving and i took a bite off of and i had to spit it out as it was extremely salty…the box of wings are still sitting in my deep freezer. no use!
my point is…is this namkeen gosht supposed to be extremely salty and hence the name? i’m just curious. ![]()

Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
@kkf I don’t think it’s a regional dish…also I don’t think it is supposed to be extra salty sounds as if it’s just mild in spice I think recipe wise it is supposed to focus on the taste of the meat not the masala
@sugar plum, do you add any yogurt to this? & what type of peppers again aside from black pepper I’m not clear on that yet…

Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
i love namkeen gosht…
we make like this…
boil the meat in PC alongwith gingergarlic paste only…
then fry gosht in oil with salt and blackpepper…till a bit crispy texture…
we add yogurt too sometimes…
serve with french fries and boiled/fried peas
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
It sounds a little bit like talla huwa or bhunna ghosht - which is popular in Hyderabad (Deccan-waala).
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
Hmmm I will look into Rida aftabs recipe, and akmoti yours sounds almost like how it was described to me…
Sehrysh, I’m not too aware of hyderabadi cuisine, but maybe that’s where the inspiration comes from…sounds similar enough
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
yes it is quite similar to bhuna gosht…
just we add onions, cumin seeds, coriander powder, vinegar, yogurt and green chillies for bhuna gosht
and we add curry leaves too sometimes(i’m a hyderabadi)
while namkeen gosht doesnt have much masalas and its a very common dish in northern areas of pakistan…dont know about the origins though…
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
^ khatti’s recipe is a lot like the recipe I’ve tasted and doesn’t have the added ingredients you mention.
Re: namkeen gosht recipe…
Thanks for digging that up Sehrysh! ![]()
