Do people ever do this in desi culture? My fiance (non-desi) was saying how he’d like to name our future son after him but I wasn’t sure if he was joking or not.. and isn’t it a bit big-headed??
Re: Naming your baby after yourself
I thinkmit's rare in desi culture. I've never seen it.
Re: Naming your baby after yourself
^Yeah, I couldn't think of anyone that has done it.. It seems a bit weird to me..
Re: Naming your baby after yourself
my daughter's last name is my name. I don't care what people think about it. I am the only parent she has and I wanted her to have my name.
Re: Naming your baby after yourself
^But she has her own first name :)
Re: Naming your baby after yourself
It's so funny calling a 90 year old man "Junior" :p
Re: Naming your baby after yourself
Some of us still pass on last names becuase in Desi as well as other cultures last names are often titles.
First names in my culture were actually middle names if you know what I mean? Fathers gave you a first name and last name, but you then earned your own first name ussually through some deed of your own... as children were expected, nay required to surpass thier fathers.
Also that first name could also be a generic title so it all gets very confusing...
For example a father called Adam Khan who was a doctor would be called Hakeem Adam Khan. If he had a son for example Musa Khan who went on to be a merchant or something and decided to be called "Riaz", literally "wealthy". He would thus be known as Riaz Musa Khan.
