Naming and shaming

Recently, I saw a vendor/designer on Facebook publicly name and shame clients who had not paid for their parcels despite repeated attempts at contact.

This was the first time I’ve ever seen a vendor do that. I know when it comes to clients vs vendors, the scales are usually tipped in the favor of clients; it’s common for us clients to rally against certain designers/vendors, but it’s always interesting when vendors “fight back.” I know it must be tough for vendors to deal with unscrupulous clients and there are definitely people like that who exist.

while I don’t know the vendor personally I trust that it must have been a very extreme case and it was a last resort and I wouldn’t cross them off my list as a potential person to order from…but it does give cause to a bit of hesitation.

What do you think? Would you still buy from a vendor who did that (given that their reputation is otherwise stellar)?

Re: Naming and shaming

i saw the post too! it wouldnt put me off ordering at all, at the end of the day i'm a honest customer, i pay the right money and on time. I would never ever dream of getting an outfit and not paying for it, its just plain wrong BUT i also think vendors need to have a clear pricing policy out. Why on earth are you sending out kapray before the person has paid for them? You would never walk into marks and spencers buy and outfit and say "i'll pay you when i feel like it!!",

Re: Naming and shaming

I saw too ... It didnt annoy me, its her right to do so, dont we cry when we dont get what we want from designers. No it makes her look human and I would still order from her if I wanted something.

Re: Naming and shaming

One thing I felt, the vendor should have tagged those customers who didnt pay, what the use of naming if we dont know those ppl, for us those were just names, but if family and friend find out then maybe shame comes in play and those ppl pay for what they ordered or clarify their story ect...

its sad in ramazan such things are going on....

Re: Naming and shaming

where did u ladies see this, any links… :hmmm: may be some of us might know those named ppl

Re: Naming and shaming

Erm.. you know, I had a discussion with a another vendor regarding the same thing.

I think there should be a way that we can share clients to avoid. But not sure if doing it publicly is the way to go.

There was a client of my guy but the whole order had gone as me as the inbetween. It had been 1.5 years and she still had an outstanding balance. Now, my guy still had some of her outfits which he wasn't going to post out until she had settled. I was trying one last ditch attempt to contact her on her FB page (after sending numerous emails and text msges over the time) to let her know that since it had been so long, if she didn't reply we would consider the transaction closed and that he would try to sell the outfits to recoup his losses. Not that he could because they were 2 years ago lawn suits in a size 0. Anyway, I found a comment from another GS vendor requesting that she pay the remainder of her balance from a year ago as well! Also found out that even though she had money outstanding with us both, she was still having suits made from other vendors. I couldn't believe it.

Re: Naming and shaming

don’t get me started over this :bummer: logoan ka koi haal nai reh gya !!

Re: Naming and shaming

Haven't read the post but a similar thing happened to me on the very first sale on ED page.

Order got delayed by a couple of days and customer was supposed to wear it on a function over the weekend so I dispatched it as urgent delivery via TCS assuming remaining amount will be paid afterwards. There was no contact from her afterwards. Interesting thing is that she is still in my contact list on both facebook and gtalk yet doesn't reply to any of my messages.

I didn't and won't name the customer though. Reason being - in retail sales, you are responsible for collections before you dispatch the order. If its a business I am dealing with, I won't mind asking partial payment upfront and remaining afterwards though.

Re: Naming and shaming

I know few such people too and have been a victim :bummer: But I made sure to warn all HBD privately to be careful while dealing with those women and NOT to listen to any stories they put up explaining the reason of delay in payment :is:

I was about to write on the FB walls of a lady with pending payment since March. first she said she lost her job and then she said she is sending it in a day since she found a better job and then she disappeared and stopped responding to emails. I wrote up a post for her main wall but then found out we had mutual friends (about 5 who are my regular customers) so I had to write a nasty threatening PM to her warning that I will approach the ‘common friends’ very soon if she doesnt clear the balance. Abb har aik ka lihaaz karnay baith gaye tau ho gya business !
