Naming a child

Although its quite an old story, a few years back children who were named after Adolf Hitler and other Nazi-friendly names were accused of abuse and had their children taken away from them

Today I saw this headline on my facebook newsfeed–“Asif Zardari died from a chest infection.” Turns out the Zardari in this story is a 9 month odl baby boy who was named after the president…although the death is very sad and I feel the headline is in bad taste, I just wonder why the parents would name their child that?

Do you all think it is a parent’s right to name their child after someone who is hated by almost everyone?

Re: Naming a child

I think zardari gave some money and it was the 'rickshaw baby'....

nobody else's thoughts? :(

Re: Naming a child

Sometimes the child is not named after an infamous person....but because the parents liked the name and the meaning of it. It could even be that the child was given a name.....before a person with the same name even became a prominent figure or achieved their infamous status in the world.

I do believe that parents have a responsibility to consider various factors when naming their child (such as pronunciation, meaning, the predominant culture that they're living in.........for example the name Phuc might sound ordinary in Vietnam but can be problematic in a foreign country, and the consequences the name would have on the child and even others.)

Re: Naming a child

See that would apply if it were say, Osama....but the two examples I stated, Zardari and Adolf...thats just weird.

There are so many beautiful Islamic/nonIslamic names, why name your child after some extremely hated people?
