I’m just curious and wanted your opinion on dramas having main characters with names like Mohini and such belonging to a Muslim family. At least from what i know it’s a Hindu name. If there’s a Hindu family or storyline then i understand but otherwise it seems odd, don’t you think?
Goya - Main girl’s names Mohini
Sartaaj (that new hum drama) has a protagonist with the same name
Sartaaj is actually Urdu meaning crown of head. there are people named Sartaj. In old Pakistani movies the married heriones used to call their husbands sartajj lol! Mohini however, is another story!
Sorry i meant the dramas name begins with Sartaaj, don't remember the full name, which has a protagonist with the same name.
It's a south asian name, yes. I have a friend with the same name and she's hindu she was says it's a name of a goddess also may also reefer to a seductive demoness.
And the two women portrayed in the shows are muslim.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not discriminating. I was just wondering what the creators had in mind naming their protagonists that.

Sorry, I was wrong. Mohini is a Hindu goddess.
I always thought it referred to something like 'attractive'. At least that is how it is used in Urdu prose and poetry.
That is Mohni the attractive word. Mohini is a Hindu name. Haven't seen Goya so don't know if it is indeed Mohini. OP says it is Mohini then it probably is.

From my limited knowledge (without Google assistance) Mohni and Mohini are both same - seductress. As pointed out above it is a celestial being - not sure a goddess.
Them Northies swallow the vowel every once in a while. So Mohini becomes Mohni. Referring to same person.
Free your mind and the rest will follow.
Be color blind, don't be so shallow. ;)
I dunno about you guys but i know for a fact that mohini is a word that is frequently used in Urdu/Punjabi. I'm sure you must've heard of man mohini which means 'pasandeeda' (or something of that sort).
Yes, kind if like that. Although obviously Mohniya is not a name but is being used as a term of endearment. I have always read the word in Urdu as Mohni part of mun mohni often used in a sentence like mun mohni surat.
It could very well be. Regular Urdu now just calls it mohni.

I am pretty sure both mohni and mohini mean the same thing just as the urdu maasi and Hindi mausi do. I too assume that the name draws from the mohni of "mann mohni" and not some Hindu goddess. At first it struck me as a strange choice of name for a protagonist but then not stranger than Khirad or Zaroon which, frankly, make me want to barf.
