Re: Names for Boys...
yes, i know its the name of the surah and thats what it referred to, in fact, and thats why i remember them because both taha and yaseen are the beginnings of surah's... there are, i believe, seven words who's meaning only Allah knows and that are forbidden to be used as names.
also, the Prophet PBUH was in another league entirely so if they are part of his 99 names then i'm not surprised they are both two of his 99 names but yet we're still forbidden from using them. and this is confusing, i admit, cos some people say they are and some people say they aren't... where could i find a correct list of the names of Prophet PBUH? i didn't see them in my english-translation version of the Quran.
this is what i read...
Manners of naming your Muslim child
Yoosef ibn Abdullaah al-Arafee
Just as it is disliked to name with the names of soorahs of the Qur'an such as: TaaHaa, Yaaseen and other names of soorahs. This is the saying of Imaam Maalik- rahimahullaah- Ibnul- Qayyim also said: "The saying of the common people that Yaaseen and TaaHaa are from the names of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is not correct, there is no 'saheeh' hadeeth about it or any 'hasan' hadeeth, nor anything 'mursal', nor any narration from any Companion, but rather they are letters like 'Alif Laam Meem', 'HaaMeem', 'Alif Laam Raa' and the like".
in the end though, i firmly believe, everyone needs to do their own research and find their own proof.
