Re: Name your top 5 fav dramas from the last decade (2000 - 2010)
Here is my list . please keep in mind that i didn't see ANY dramas between 2001 - 2008 and only recently resumed watching dramas.
Doraha (Mehreen Jabbar) - 2009
Zebunissa (Sahira Kazmi) - 2000
Daam (Mehreen Jabbar) - 2010
Malal (Mehreen Jabbar) - 2010
Meri Zaat Zara (I am not crazy about this drama but it's definitely better than "bol meri machli", "Ishq junoon dewangi", "castle aik umeed ", "man-o-salwa") - 2010
Most nonsensical drama:
BOL MERI MACHLI!!
My updated list:
Doraha - MJ
Daam - MJ
Malal - MJ
Dastaan - HH ( although i've stopped watching it now, I really liked the first 10 episodes)
Zebunissa - Sahira Kazmi
Re: Name your top 5 fav dramas from the last decade (2000 - 2010)
Most of these dramas are private productions with slick production values and big budgets but sometimes i actually miss PTV home productions with their quaint sets, saqeel Urdu dialogues etc like someone mentioned Kaanch ke Par.
Another drama from the last 10 years having this old world PTV charm and good classic writing by Dr. Anwar Sajjad was "Taawaan"(ransom) . I have no idea when it was telecast but it could not have been more than 10 years ago. The cast included Sabiha Khanum, Nauman Masood, Asad amongst others. It depicted the problems of middle class families very well. Sadly it is not to be found online.
Colony 52 by Anwar Maqsood focusing on the lives of refugee colonies in the early days of Pakistan was also great though I do not remember who the director was.
Another play I would definitely recommend to everyone was "Neeli Dhoop" written by Bushra Ansari and directed very well by her daughter Nariman.
And am glad someone mentioned Aansoo. It was a really nice play with an excellent OST. Another one of those gems from**** the time most people assumed PTV had stopped making good plays but in fact were too overwhelmed by the Indian stuff to look elsewhere.
And its criminal how not many people mentioned "Mere Paas Paas" which was actually the single harbinger of the whole revival of drama in Pakistan after the onslaught of Star Plus. and do I even need to mention the winning Mehreen Jabbar/Umera ahmad combo?

Finally someone has mentioned this masterpiece online, I was afraid people would not recall it b/c it is pretty old (aired on PTV in mid 90's I think). It was an incredible PTV play set in Lahore about family ties and old cultural values being forgotten. Had a very Austen feel to it and the cast was amazing! Filmstars Habib and Sabiha Khanum added so much depth to their roles - it really justifies why they have 'legendary' status. The lead actress was very promising too...(don't know her name).

Wasn't the lead actress the girl who playyed Jinnah's daughter in the drama "Jinnah". or maybe his wife ( my memory is getting rusty).
Re: Name your top 5 fav dramas from the last decade (2000 - 2010)
Taawan was in all probability telecast in the year 2000 since at that time a lot of my friends were hooked to teh Kahani Ghar ghar ki and Kyunki Saas bhi kabhi bahoo thi type shows which totally depressed me considering how masterpieces like Taawan were still being made on our side of the border.
And if I recall correctly it was running simultaneously with Aansoo.

it was directed by S.suleman

Are you talking about the one starring bushra ansari, arjumand rahim, shahood alvi and sajid hassan.
Re: Name your top 5 fav dramas from the last decade (2000 - 2010)
PTV stopped producing good stuff somewhere in the late 80s
there were some okay'ish dramas in the early 90's like ABC and some random plays
otherwise it has been all downhill since then
Re: Name your top 5 fav dramas from the last decade (2000 - 2010)
neeli dhoop was a single telefilm starring bushra ansari, arjumand raheem, shahood alvi, sajjid hassan and nighat chaudry...it was aired on ptv world near 1998. it was directed by bushraz hubby iqbal ansari (nariman may have been his assistant if this is the telefilm which is being talked about|) it was a totally totally excellent telefilm with excellent performances by everyone and a very very good msg...
dooree i wont spoil it for you. i am trying me best to find it online...i also do think that it must be available in pak in one of the cd stores...
