Name change on the passport..

Here’s the situation: I’m a british national and hubby a US citizen I’ll be travelling to America soon InshAllah.
I have two options..

1). Change passport etc on my husbands name and then travel.. So the green card i’ll get InshAllah will come on my husbands name.

2). Keep the passport on my father’s name, obviously green card will come with my father’s name. And change it later..

Need advise from you guys!
Anyone been through similar situation,what do you recommend?

*it doesn't matter...whatever is ur legal name [on ur birth certificate] will be used until u officially change ur name and attach the 'name change certificate'. u'll get a passport in the name of whatever is on ur birth certificate...if i were u, i would get the name change [officially] and then get a new passport. it'll save u, as u pointed out, some extra work when u receive your green card. *

Agree with KKF. It does not matter which name you use, the GC will come in that name. Better to go with the name that you plan on using going forward.

we need a name change certificate?? how and where do we get it from?

**YES, to change name in the passport from the one u've currently on your birth certificate. you also need to take with you the 'marriage certificate' in order to facilitate the change.

since i'm NOT in the UK ***** i don't know where to get the name change but in Canada it's done at the region's office of Birth Registration in the Ministry of Citizenship and Naturalization. u may look up in the 'Blue" Govenmental pages of your fone book or look up on the internet. u'll find it, iA. ***

Go for second option. Once you are with your husband let him decide whether he would like to change it or not.

you dont need a name change certificate ,you just show your nikkah nama for your surname to be changed ,according to british law,dont know about others...

here, Passport office will issue a passport ONLY in the EXACT name that appears on the applicant's Birth certificate or equivalent.**
