Name brand vs Generic

What are some of the household items/grocery items that you buy that are name brand or generic?
Sometimes quality doesn’t matter, as quality is the same for boht, but in some items, there’s a huge difference between quality.

Personally, tissue paper (paper towels, toilet paper etc) and Q-tips…have to buy the branded ones. Will add more as I think of them. What about you all?

Re: Name brand vs Generic

toilet paper, paper towel, dish washing soap, laundry detergent, ice cream, pasta sauce, spaghetti all have to be brand names. (cant think of anything else at the moment)

Something that I actually prefer "no name" is noodles. Like the MR. Noodles packets you buy, I like the no name ones better than brand name.

Re: Name brand vs Generic

I am not much bothered about brands ... the only one I try to get is the dish washing liquid , I like Fairy and cant compromise on that ... for all other things , doesnt matter ...

Re: Name brand vs Generic

i dont buy any branded stuff. all the stuff i buy is usually store's own brand.

Re: Name brand vs Generic

Me too , in the beginning of my days in US I worked at a retail store and I know that mostly the store brand is manufactured by the same company which manufactures the name brand. You will notice that the packaging of the store brand is similar to the name brand, if store will put similar product to next to the name brand the name brand will sue the store if name brand did not make it for the store.

Re: Name brand vs Generic

Always buy branded, 'If it doesn't say Kellogs on the box, it's not Kellogs in the box'.

Re: Name brand vs Generic

I mostly buy branded stuff because I have noticed quality difference.. I am not sure if you guys have Price Rite there or not but once I bought their kitchen paper towels and bathroom tissue and it was HORRIBLE! I do have to admit that afte rthat experience I have never tried any otehr store brand.. except sometimes walmart though for paper plates etc.!

I dont compromise on kitchen paper towel, bathroom tissue, laundry detergent, diswashing liquid, ketchup, mayo, etc!

Re: Name brand vs Generic

There are some things which I only buy branded, like:

mayonnaise- The non-branded one is truly just gross
Tuna cans
peanut butter
Cheese
etc.

But for most things I don't really care. And overall my favorite grocery place is Aldi's, I've yet to be disappointed shopping there.

Re: Name brand vs Generic

Learn this rule for store brand:

If the packaging is not similar and it is not put next to the name brand then do not buy it. Most probably It is not a quality product.
