Namaz

My mind starts to wander. I have to try making a concerted effort to concentrate on nimaz itself and not let other issues come to fore in my mind.

i remem when i got back from saudi arabia after performing Umra so my uncle told me ke beta whenever u pray always see Allah swt's house(Haram shareef) infront of ur eyes and mind while reading the ayat its a sawaaab as well..

This is a great idea as well.

^
^ does it not confine God to Haram Shareef only? lets say you are reciting Surah Fateh and picturing Haram Shareef in your mind. "All praise be to Allah the Lord of the worlds" would mean "All praise be to .... it gives a picture of a God residing in that particular place and reigning over the entire universe from there. infact we shouldnt picture/see anything in our minds except what God wants us to i.e, what verses tell us.

We, Muslims, dont worship kaaba neither do we bow to kaaba. The only reason we face kaaba while praying is to show unity, to show that we all worship the * same * God, and ofcourse because Allah says so:

"We see the turning of thy face (for guidance) to the heavens: now shall We turn thee to a Qiblah that shall please thee. Turn then thy face in the direction of the Sacred Mosque: wherever ye are, * turn your faces in that direction * "
[Al-Qur’an 2:144]

i think we should concentrate on the meaning of verses. :)

When praying namaaz I try to understand what I’m reciting and think of what I will be reciting. At times my mind wanders to the dunya and then I start divulging in them with Him forgeting that I am still in namaaz. Sometimes I get stuck on one phrase because of its meaning falling into a deep trance only to realize that I’ve wasted so much time on one line :bummer: sigh I gotta pay attention.

I try to imagine being on the 7th heaven in front of Him the distance between Him and Muhammad :saw: during the journey of Miraj.

When as a kid, I learnt salaat, I only did it because I had to. I didn't enjoy it. It was always quick quick so I could continue playing, or watching tv or whatever I was doing. As kids, we were never thought the meaning of the kalima, or surahs of koran we were learning, or the meaning of the words we said during salaat. Only later as a teen I started focusing on the meaning of the words. And then salaat became enjoyable for me, important. Then I understood the words and prayed with my heart. I agree that focusing on the meaning definitely helps keeping the focus on salaat, but also when you understand what you are praying, you pray with whole your heart.

That was well stated, Sadya. i had the same problems, but when i actually started figuring out what each surah and line meant, it made salaat so much more than a ritual act. My heart finally came into it. i haven't yet managed to pray with my "whole" heart - i think, for me personally, there is still a great deal of room for improvement. But Insha'Allah, God Willing, i will get there one day.

:k:

homo.. by thinking about Haram shreef while recitin the surah doesnt mean i m worshipin kabaa.. its just a way to keep ur mind away from all those regular things in life. it would be a treasure if i think about the meaning of the surah since i dun know the translation so i will stick to haram and madina shareef :)

In_sha_Allah, you will. When your intentions are good, Allah helps you get there.

Insha’Allah i will.
Thank you. :flower1: May Allah Bless you for saying that.

Can someone please post the full translation in english of what's read during Namaz? Much appreciated.

Fret, i searched for a long time on Google, didn’t really find much that was helpful. Try this one and let me know what you think of it. i haven’t checked out the organization in much detail, so i am NOT entirely certain how accurate all of their information is. (There are so many diverse Muslim orgs. out there now, it seems). Anyways, i hope that one helps a little.
