Namaz-e-Janazah [Ghaibana Namaz]

:salam2:

I think many of us know about **‘Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janazah’ **and have seen/read on TV/newspaper that **Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janazah’ **of such such was offered. I would like to know is such Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janazah is allowed where corpse is not in front?

Re: Namaz-e-Janazah [Ghaibana Namaz]

**as far as namaaz-e-janaazah is concerned, it should be done where the dead body is...it's neither necessary nor required Islamically to have a namaaz e janaazah Ghaaibaana. i believe this is an innovation in sub-continent. why is it always done for rich N famous and never for a commoner? praying namaaz-e-janaazah is farz-e-kifaayah which means that if a few people do it then no one is held accountable by Allah but if no one does it then the whole Muslim community is held accountable...just like ai'takaaf!

the irony is that we are pesh-pesh [in the front line] in doing things that are NOT required of us while NOT do things that are obligatory upon us.**

Re: Namaz-e-Janazah [Ghaibana Namaz]

I second that except ai'takaaf wala portion.

Re: Namaz-e-Janazah [Ghaibana Namaz]

shukria janaab bahot bahot magar ai'takaaf waale portion meN ittefaaq kiuN nahiiN? meraa matlab thaa k ai'takaaf bhii 'farz-e-kifaayah' hai... :)

Re: Namaz-e-Janazah [Ghaibana Namaz]

So if a muslim died today and no one read namaz-e-janaza on him/her who is accountable for it and whats the punishment for this sin ?

Re: Namaz-e-Janazah [Ghaibana Namaz]

I would like to know the answer too. :)

Re: Namaz-e-Janazah [Ghaibana Namaz]

*as as it would be for if NO one sat in the ai'takaaf! to be honest, i do NOT know the exact punishment but i also believe that it's NOT mentioned in Qur'aan o aHaadees. *

Re: Namaz-e-Janazah [Ghaibana Namaz]

Peace All,

As Khalil bhai said, It is 'Farz-e-Kefaaya' which means even if one person prayed it then all would be relieved of the responsibility where that person live. If no one from different cities prays it then those who are aware of it will have committed a sin because of not offering 'farz-e-kefaaya.

Re: Namaz-e-Janazah [Ghaibana Namaz]

And what is the punishment for those who missed knowingly.

Re: Namaz-e-Janazah [Ghaibana Namaz]

Peace all,

Pardon me for bumping up this old thread.

I discussed the matter of “Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janaza” with many but no luck. Finally one referred me to the incident of An-Najash (King of Ethiopia). Today while reading hadith book ‘Funerals (Al-Janaaiz)’ of Sahih Bukhari, I came across hadith Nos 412, 417 and 418 and i quote:

I would like to know on the basis of above hadith, is it allowed to offer Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janazzah? and "It was only allowed to the Prophet :saw2: as a special incident/occasion?

Re: Namaz-e-Janazah [Ghaibana Namaz]

Although I’m not very sure, but I think I heard (in a lecture somewhere I can’t recall) that the reason for this was that Negus was the sole muslim in his land at the time, and that was a fact unknown to his people. So it is possible that his people buried Negus in their tradition; whereas, when Jibreel (a.s.) delivered the news to Rasool Allah (s.a.w.), Rasool Allah (s.a.w.) and sahaba (r.a.) performed the Salatul Janazah to fulfill the requirement of Fard-ul-Kifayah. An it is also possible that Rasool Allah (s.a.w.) would offer the Salatul Janazah for Negus because Rasool Allah (s.a.w.) offered Salatul Janazah for a lot of the sahaba (r.a.) who died during his lifetime.

I have been under the impression that Janazah is a Fard-ul-Kifayah, so if some people of the community do it, it is sufficient for the community. Muslims of the times although living in a far away land, were Negus’ community from a religious point of view. But now there are masaajid around, and there are mashaAllah a number of muslims in most communities around the world, so the need to do Ghaib Namaz-e-Janazah may be limited because as long as some members of the community do it, it is discharged on behalf of the muslims at-large.

Those are just my thoughts on it. May Allah forgive me If I have mixed up facts or written unjustly.

Allah knows best.
