Namaz behind the imaam

Im comfortable praying namaz on my own and how it should be read etc etc.
However i need help for when i read behind the imaam.

I.e When reading Isha namaz we normally read 4 farz behind the imaam. So firstly one would do the niyaat and then say allahu akbar.

What i would like to know is , When the molwee(imaam) starts to recite do we just listen all the way through and not read anything apart from when we are in ruku, sajda and tashadu.

Or do we read full namaz in our hearts behind the imaam too ???

All help will be appreciated

Re: Namaz behind the imaam

In first two rakaat's you listen to imam for Fajr, Maghrib and Isha , for zuhr and asr you stand quitely and concentrate on your nammaz , in the other rakaat you recite sura a fatiha.

Reciting Surah Fatiha in loud prayers (i.e. Fajr and First 2 Rakah of Maghrib and Isha’) then there is difference of opinion regarding this.

  • It is compulsory for Salaat to be accepted

  • It is not compulsory but likeable

This accompanies other issues - such as if it is compulsory then when should the follower recite it?

  • Should he recite along with the Imam

  • Should he recite the verse as soon as the imam finishes reciting it

  • Should he recite the Fatiah after the recitation of the Surah by Imam and the Ameen

What is closer is that:

  • It is not compulsory but likeable
he should recite along with the Imam
The reason for this are following Ahadith as we

Re: Namaz behind the imaam

I have another question about namaz... is it wrong to recite surat-e-ikhlas in other rakats beside the first rakat? I was at the mosuqe and molvi sahab was late so the namaz was lead by some guy who read surat-e-ikhlas in all the rakats. When were done with the namaz, quite a few aunties said it is wrong to recite surat-e-ikhlas after 1st rakat. I always thought that after surat-e-fatiha you can recite any surat...

I think you can recite any surah after surah fatiha but not repeat the same surah in the next rakat.

Wallahu a’alam !!

As far as i know your right with the above statement.

Anyway back to the topic I also read some place the prophet (saw) said “if you do not recite surah al fatihah in all your rakats then your namaz is not valid” it is mentioned in an hadith some place.

Ok with the above in mind if its not too much trouble for you brother , can you please give me a detailed descrtiption of how you would read 3/4 farz behind the imaam

Re: Namaz behind the imaam

As far as my knowledge goes , In the 3rd & the 4rth rakaat you read just like you would read when alone. You read everything .

Wallahu a'alam !!

Re: Namaz behind the imaam

Its isha namaz im about to pray four farz behind the imaam.

I do my niyaat and say alahu akbar.

Do i then proceed on to reading bismillah ir rah man nir raheem , suban kal hum wabi humdi ka ?????????????????

Re: Namaz behind the imaam

ok.
You do the niyat - say Allahu akbar - subana kala huma wabi humdi ka ....-Then read surah fatiha & a surah (depending on which view you follow whether to read or not to read) - then ruku (read subhana rabi el azeem) then sajdah twice(read subhana rabbi el a'alaa) -
1st rakaat over !

Stand up & start with surah fatiha & a surah (depending on which view you follow whether to read or not to read)then ruku (read subhana rabi el azeem) then sajdah twice(read subhana rabbi el a'alaa) -then read attahiyaatu lillahi .........

2nd rakaat over !

Stand up & Read Surah Fatiha -then ruku (read subhana rabi el azeem) then sajdah twice(read subhana rabbi el a'alaa)

3rd rakaat over !

Stand up & Read Surah Fatiha -then ruku (read subhana rabi el azeem) then sajdah twice(read subhana rabbi el a'alaa) -then read attahiyaatu lillahi .........-then durood shareef -then Dua - then salaam.

Wallahu a'alam !!

sowie didnt know, thanks all the same

Re: Namaz behind the imaam

In the Hanafi school of thought, you do NOT say any surah in any namaaz behind Imam NOT even surah Fatiha. You read thanna (subhana..) and stay quiet throughout the whole namaaz. This applies to Zhur and Asr as well.

Example, isha salaat, if the person recited surah ikhlas in the first 2 rakaats, it is still accepted.
