I was surprised to find only one short thread on this initiative by Imran Khan dating back to 2009, most posts in which were about how he’s pro-taliban and a joker politician
I thought it was important to open an updated thread for those who are not aware of the huge project because I hadn’t heard much about it so I’m assuming I’m not the only one.
In summary, Imran’s vision is to establish an Oxford-inspired knowledge city in Pakistan. Namal college in Mianwali is an associate college of the Bradford university of which Imran is a Chancellor. Currently, the college offers degrees in engineering and computer sciences and 97% of the current students are on scholarships. So the underprivileged students of rural areas who were not able to afford higher education are now studying for University of Bradford degrees for free and doing even better than the UoB students! Pakistani youth has so much potential MashaAllah. 2015 will see the establishment of six academic buildings including School of Science and Engineering, School of Medicine, School of Business, School of Humanities, School of Agriculture and Science & Technology Park, as well as residential and commercial buildings.

Every one of us should try to make some contributions to the project in terms of both financial and human resources. Perhaps call them up and ask if they could use your services in any way. Call me a pagal but I’d be willing to work there for free once I’ve completed my own edumucation. Just last month, there was a charity dinner held in Manchester for Namal college which managed to raise £400,000 (over 5 crore Rs?) in one night! Last year in London, they raised £200,000 in one night. I don’t have the figures from the rest of fundraising events they held in Pakistan and elsewhere but I’m certain, just like Pakistanis made the dream of Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital come true (100s of crores of donations were collected from Pakistanis worldwide), they’ll be right behind IK for this project too InshaAllah.
