Re: Namaaz and Nailpolish

though the thread is already derailed .....just wanted to say something....:)

PCG.....when u say no one is teachng their kids to do proper wuzu....you are generalizing big time....:)
i'm not here to argue ....but i for one have been lucky enough as i'm raised by some ppl who took extra care for even minor details....your point is valid that there are a lot more important issues to be taken care of .....true!! but still we can't dismiss fiqh altogether by just saying that ....

there are alhamdulillah enough people working ...infact serving the muslims ....its just so that you need to look for them .....

we try so hard to search which school/college/uni is at the top ....but never put that much effort for religion .....all we do is ..start generalizing calling them mullah n whatever ....

khayr....it wasn't meant to be harsh ....don't take it that way .....it was just so that i was explaining my point :)

Re: Namaaz and Nailpolish

Ok wow, the amount of ignorance in this thread.

Let's make this simple for some of us:

Salaat is ONE of the FIVE pillars of Islam. Why not try n performing it right? Yes, nailpolish is a minute issue lekin if its all about NIYAH -- HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY JUSTIFY YOUR INTENTIONS by diverting the guidance already given?? If you can justify yourself during your connection with God without thoroughly following procedures such as wudu, by all means, please do so, but don't bring the confused ones into following your steps.

Btw, someone mentioned how desis don't teach their kids the correct wuzu procedure -- dunno the kind of desis you've been hanging out with. I've always been taught to thoroughly wash until i cant visibly see a dry part of my skin and the adults whom I interact with haven't been ignorant on this matter either.

Yes, there are bigger issues in life to be dealt with so just GO AHEAD and DEAL with em, no one's stopping ya. You can start by correcting your local desis at mosques for the wuzu procedure and once they understand ur point of view, you can expand the conversation to helping a poor kid in Pakistan get his daily supply of healthy food and education.

Re: Namaaz and Nailpolish

Ok, as it is in religion forum, lets move forward from *Behnapa * adivce to technical religious angle...

Wuzu and Salaat (ablution and obligatory prayers) there are some very important things to keep in mind.

ablution(Wazu) can be devided two parts. Farz and sunnah

Farz

Some body parts are must, to wash with water during wuzu. If even a tiny part of any of these part is left dry, the wuzu will be considered incomplete and there can not a be a Salat with incomplete wuzu.

the parts which must be washed...

  1. Hand + arm upto elbow
  2. complete face (from forehead to bellow the chin, till neck)
  3. atleast one fourth of head (hairs) should get wet.
  4. both Feet upto ankles

I will give the details of sunnah later ..

Re: Namaaz and Nailpolish

Ok before going to sunah part of wuzu … let me explain what is the difference in farz and Sunnah part of different ritual (Salaat, wuzu, Ghusal, etc. all have farz and sunnah parts )

for example if one wants to cook rice , you need

  1. Rice
  2. Water
  3. heat
  4. some utensil

^ these things are necessary for cooking plain rice. Anything missing will cause problem
But if you want to make good looking, tastey rice you can add many other things according to your liking and taste.

same is the case with farz and sunnah

some of the sunnah : ( Those i remember)

  1. Saying bismillah in the begining
  2. washing right side first
  3. doing gargle (3 time)
  4. using miswaak or tooth brush ,brushing teeth
  5. cleaning nostrils with water
  6. Using sufficient quantity of water ( no wastage)
  7. cleaning ears with fingers

and some more , Maybe some friend can complete the list :flower1:

There is also a requirement of clean dress and other important requirements of cleanliness. Please, when you go to the masjid next time, find a book in the shelf which explains the basics of Namaaz (Salaat) and Wuzu and read it.

In short, applying nail polish makes nails water proof. with nail polsih a farz part of wuzu remains incomplete. so no wuzu–> no Salaat. Although after doing wuzu one can apply nail polish and pray the normal prayers, there is no hindrance in prayer due to this.

Re: Namaaz and Nailpolish

Dear Saadzzz , Intentions aren’t the only thing that matters. The Prophet has told to have separate beds for boys and girls (brother and sister) after the age of 10. Do you think a brother wwould have some bad untentions for his sister , maybe , but probably mostly not. So its not the intentions, its about Obeying Allah and the prophet and not what you think or your intention. If the prophet has said that wuzu is invalid if any part of your wuzu area is dry that means its invalid. Period. No arguments , no intentions . Ofcourse if its left dry unintentionally thats forgivable.

Re: Namaaz and Nailpolish

Its very straight forward. If you have nail polish on and then perform ablution , the ablution is not valid. hence if you pray, you’r are merely wsitng oyur time , thinking your intentions are right.

If you performed ablution and then performed wuzu and then prayed , there’s is nothing wrong in that.

Re: Namaaz and Nailpolish

Good job. Couldn’t have said it better. JazakAllah

Re: Namaaz and Nailpolish

a number of scholars would disagree, though it being sunnah may be the majority view

Ibn Rushd writes, “Those who expressed this opinion [that wiping the ears is obligatory] are a group from among [Imam] Malik’s followers, as he considered the ears a part of the head. [Imam] Abu Hanifa and his followers considered their wiping as obligatory, and said that they are to be wiped along with the head with the same water. Al Shafi’i considered their wiping as sunna and stipulated the renewal of water for them. This opinion [that it is sunnah] was held by another group of [Imam] Malik’s followers and they maintained that it is [Imam] Malik’s opinion..” (The Distinguished Jurist’s Primer 1/p.10)

are the ears part of the head and so obligatory to wash along with the head, or are they part of the face and hence obligatory to wash with the face? or neither?

disagreement in part stems from the understanding of and authenticity of the hadith, “The ears are part of the head” - Musnad Ahmed, Ibn Majah etc., reported by some eight companions

al Tirmidhi writes in his Sunan (34) after quoting the above hadith:

“Qutayba said: ‘I do not know whether this is a saying of the Prophet (saw) or that of Abu Amamah [note: but Abu Amamah is not the only one who reports it].’”

al Tirmidhi then writes:

“Many of the people of knowledge from the companions of the Prophet (saw) and those after them have acted according to this - that the ears are part of the head. This is [also] the saying of Sufyan al Thawri, Ibn al Mubarak, al Shafi’i [but for him they are sunnah to wash], Ahmed [ibn Hanbal] and Ishaq [ibn Rahawiyya]. Some of the people of knowledge said: ‘What is at the front (or facing) part of the ears is part of the face, and what is at the back (or rear) is part of the head’. Ishaq said: ‘In preference, their front parts are washed with the face, and their rear parts with the head.’”

Re: Namaaz and Nailpolish

I thought it was common sense for muslims that nail polish should be removed from the nails to make the wuzu valid.

I found some comments here to be really weird.

Re: Namaaz and Nailpolish

What i heard it tat is u do wado and then put nail polish it is ok.. but if u put nail polish per wado nahi hota.. magar once ur wado is broken u should remove the nail polish as well :)
but still i have nail polish on my feet nails but i do pray like tat :(
is it gunah?

Re: Namaaz and Nailpolish

naasty - boys and girls having separate beds has a reason - and its not just the threat of incest.

Its also respect for children so that they may have their own privacy. Islam is more individualistic than most would like to think.

Re: Namaaz and Nailpolish

Man who has time to keep putting on nail polish and taking it off everytime u gotta do wuzu..... and whose wuzu lasts alll day long? I think i'ts kinda dumb to keep doing that..... im gonna take the polish off my feet, better to be safe than sorry
