Why do humans generally start biting down when they get stressed?
Is it evolutionatry biologically, is there a reason? If so why does stress make us attack our fingers?

Re: Nail biting
Why do humans continue to bite their nails literally 2 seconds after they've been told to take their hands out of their mouths?

Re: Nail biting
Stress raises adrenaline (and noradrenaline) significantly creating muscular tensions if you aren`t moving. In more extreme forms of stress, for example, if someone is coming to kill you, the adrenaline rush will cause you to run or panic, and if you cannot run, then you may find yourself shaking and grinding your teeth (bruxism). Stress responses are not easy to control since they are involuntary.
