Thanks!

Re: Naan recipe

I baked naans once, they turned out hard. Never tried again. And that was Chef rahat’s recipe, who cant stop praising her own cooking:pcg:

Re: Naan recipe

I have tried the recipe before! I dont think I understand it well enough the way it is written :(.. no one?

Re: Naan recipe

Yeah....click on the thread and read the thread, it has more explaination.

Re: Naan recipe

Trying them today again but they are becoming hard and dried after coming out the oven. I made dough with plain white flour, sugar, milk and little oil.

Whats wrong here? Can anyone suggest?

Re: Naan recipe

/\ Time & Temperature...

Re: Naan recipe

But how?

Re: Naan recipe

/\ Trial & error...as there are no guidelines supplied by the manufacturer for the naans...

PS: In a normal hot clay tandoori...it takes a minute or tow to get a naan or* roti* ready... :D

Re: Naan recipe

Alright thanks.

Re: Naan recipe

Mostar, what you need to do is , keep an eye on the naan while it in the oven ... when its almost done from one side , flip to the other side but only for a few seconds ( just to the point that it looks cooked) .. as soon as you take it out of the oven, put it under a cloth. If you dont mind butter, just dab a tiny bit of butter and let it sit under the cloth. the butter will get absorbed in the naan and due to the moisture the naan will soften.

Also , if you want extra soft naans, try adding an egg into the mixture ... and sometimes adding two to three tablespoons of yoghurt to the mixture also helps make it really really soft.

Re: Naan recipe

Oh thanks. I actaully cook the bottom side first on a tawwa and the top side in the oven. I will use butter and yogurt (milk does not work here?) If I put them in cellophane bags of pitta bread, they become somewhat soft.

Re: Naan recipe

Mostar, milk also makes it soft , but yoghurt makes it super soft. Here's my recipe:

Two cups maida
half teaspoon yeast ( mix it in luke warm water, half teaspoon sugar and leave it aside for 15 minutes)
half teaspoon salt
half teaspoon baking powder
two tablespoons oil
Three large tablespoons yoghurt.
One egg

Make the dough using water. Dont goondo it too much. Just mix it all lightly and cover with a wet cloth and leave aside for one hour.

After an hour , just lightly goondo the dough once ... and make small balls. Roll them out and spread on the oven tray , dont forget to preheat the oven ... and keep it on Fan oven rather then the Oven . On 150 Degrees. As soon as the one side starts crusting , flip and wait for the other side to cook enough but not crisp. and as soon as you take it out dab tiny bit butter on it and put it under a cloth. Its steam will moisten it immediately.

Re: Naan recipe

150C?

Thanks. I will try it soon.

You know I live on the high street and we have many excellent resturants here. But I think naans are too costly there - one for 75P.

When you compare you can can cook your masoor daal for 1.50 and buying naans for the same price. I cant go for that! In pakistan if you can cook chicken Karahi for for Rs 250 and you can spend Rs 50 on naans from the tandoor. But here Chicken karahi would be like £3 and nans would like £4!!!!

Re: Naan recipe

Yes Lusi …

Mostar , I know what you mean. Its worse up here in the NorthWest .. they charge a quid for a naan :vivo:

Re: Naan recipe

^ That's cheap! Down here (Dorset) the cheapest place I found that was willing to sell me naan on it's own - most places said I had to buy a curry from them as well - wanted to charge me £1.75, and that too for something the size of a side plate.
