N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave

Hafiz Gul Bahadur group (with which Pakistan Army had signed a peace agreement a decade ago) has scrapped the peace agreement in the wake of recent air strikes and have asked the locals to leave for Afghanistan by June 10 (instead of camps set up by the army). They have warned those going towards Pakistani side to be their enemies. Are we inching towards the final showdown?

N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave

**PESHAWAR: The North Waziristan Taliban led by Hafiz Gul Bahadar have formally revoked the peace accord with the Pakistani government, a pamphlet distributed by the group in the tribal region said.
**
**The faction, as the pamphlet sent to media by Bahadur’s spokesman Ahmadullah Ahmadi said, is now preparing to fight against what it said was the security forces’ planned operation, giving locals until June 10 to leave the area and move to safety.
**
The pamphlet distributed Friday read that the government had broken the peace accord with the North Waziristan Taliban by launching air strikes with a full-fledged operation being planned for the tribal region.

**“The shura mujahideen has decided not to tolerate this aggression anymore and has opted to fight and defend Waziristan,” the pamphlet added.
**
**The group also warned locals to refrain from seeking refuge in government-established camps. Instead, it directed them to move to areas close to the Afghan border whereby they could easily travel to Afghanistan.
**
The group has also demanded locals to sever all ties with the government and military officials by June 10. It has warned that action would be taken against those who do not heed the militants’ warnings, adding that no one would be allowed to go to the military camps and government offices after the deadline.

**The group also announced to stop all its operations in Afghanistan after June 10, adding that it would not send any fighters across the border and would focus on defending North Waziristan, calling upon the tribesmen to either leave the area or join hands with the militants.

Security forces have pounded militant hideouts in different parts of North Waziristan during the past several days, stepping up pressure on militants in the tribal region.

The ‘operation’ began a day after military planes and helicopter gunships attacked suspected militants’ hideouts in Miramshah and Mirali sub-district of North Waziristan.

Officials have put the death toll at 71 which, they say, include local and foreign militants. Residents, however, put the casualty figure at 80, including women and children.

The military action launched last week on Wednesday resulted in displacement of a large number of civilians seeking shelter in adjoining districts.

Meanwhile, key militant commanders were reported killed in airstrikes in the tribal region.

Sad part is that drone strikes have ended in Pakistan due to strong reaction against them. Otherwise Pakistan could have worked with the US to target enemies remotely.

Their willingness to take on Pakistan Army shows that they are anti-Pakistan rebels who have effectively seceded parts of the country.

If Pakistan wants to succeed then it needs to eliminate Taliban supporters among ourselves.

Re: N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave

This is what i feared, mehsud group of TTP was nothing as compared to hafiz gul bahadur-in Term of number/strength-respect in afghan taliban , He was saying this from long time that pakistani army is breaking the peace accord but he vowed not to break it for peace, i think recent airstrikes and resultant killing of civilians was the last blow. Not good for our country, Muslim on both sides will be killed in a war which is not ours. idiots from both sides will kill civilians, destroy their akhirat and destroy thousands of families.

Mummy daddys whose sole source is dawn/tribune /bbc/aljazeera will not realize that this is the first real threat to us as most probably now afghan taliban may announce unification of battle ground as rumoured.

Ya ALLAH reham

Re: N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave

after the US withdrawal the alliance of afghan and Pakistani Taliban was already a possibility as the Taliban state is not confined in Afghanistans boundary. Will TTP forego their stakes in Pakistan after the war? Will the militants dis arm themselves and submit them to the state? There is more chance of militants supporting each other as compared to afghan and Pakistani states.

Re: N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave

During Mulla Umer time there were no such thing as those wanted to do jihad had kashmir or other areas to go. Taliban state was imarah not khilafa so there was no moving forward to muslims lands.

i dont know how this will stop, just read that one pakistani major, major jalal is already among the casualty. The area is near bannu/kabogha and so one of the biggest spiritual shaikh in the area, mufti mukhtar who was neutral till now may take stance against army. plus pro pakistani jihadi outfits like jaish e muhammad/lashkar e taibah are completly dependent on bahadur group for afghanistan so they may also take sides.

I wish i am wrong in this.

Re: N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave

What do JEM and LET have to do anything with Afghanistan?

Re: N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave

LeT has very small presence in afghanistan, but JeM has much bigger presence, it has infact the biggest presence in afghanistan by any pakistani outfit. The are used by pakistani agencies to attack indian targets there, plus they carry out attacks with taliban on foreign troops.also training camp of all these pro pakistani outfits post musharaf era are i think in these wazirstan area.

As observer of the jihadi outfits in the area i feel that these outfits are much closer to our interest then any other group as they do not consider muslims in pakistan as a target(those who attacked even christians in pakistan were expelled from JeM-Abdullah shah mazhar for example was ameer of karachi who was then expelled and Ismatullah moavia the famous punjabi taliban leader who was expelled on attacking pakistan troops), but once the offensive starts it will be important to see how they react.

Re: N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave

If Pakistan continues to think "terrorism" is closer to their interests, eventually Allah will punish them. It's best to distance onself from these groups. They don't believe in letting people live in peace, everything that the Quran teaches us to go against is what these people do.

No one should be sleeping with them. The fact that the Pakistani military has used these groups to launch attacks on others --> eventually the punishment will come bite the Pakistani government and military in the butt.

Re: N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave

Terrorists apologists have undermined the armed forces for long time and the area should have cleaned after Swat operation. Time to decide are we going hand part of country to terrorists or state must establish its writ on entire country? There should be no gray areas anymore.

Re: N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave

I agree with this to some extent, but the deals with militants have been signed by the military itself. If the military wants to clean its slate, now is the time.

Re: N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave

Hafiz Gul Bahadur will not live that long then, it is the support of the Army that Hafiz and Haqqannies were able to aid Afghan Talibans. If Hafiz was as much friend of Pakistan as it is stated he was/is. Then he and Haqqanies should themselves would have tackled the beasts of TTP long ago... but they the so-called friends of Pakistan turned a blind eye towards them and these beasts ate 60,000+ innocent Pakistanies...

Now that TTP have entered into a chaos and many have predicted their end, this so-called friend of Pakistan have thrived to keep the legacy of TTP alive, that is killing innocent Pakistanies..

I say, he have said this, bomb his base with dirty and daisy-cutters, kill his supporters in big numbers, let the remaining alive think for rest of their lives that what a bad move was to announce war against Pakistan...

Re: N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave

Even if the army was willing to do it, imran and nawaz would create problems. i am not even counting the fazlu and jamat loosers here.
