Yesterday afternoon (BST) I tried to log into my yahoo e-mail account and a error message stated I had entered the wrong details. I know the details I entered Into the fields aren’t wrong as the same details have been working fine for the past 6 years!
So I tried to recover my password and I totally forgot the answer I had set for my coded secret question, and now my yahoo e-mail account has been locked for 12 hours.
I have wrote to customer services explaining In detail what has happened but they haven’t replied as of yet. I think I have a fair Idea who has hacked Into my account.
Anyhow koi khuda ka banda ya bandi madad kar sakta hai meri! It’s my oldest e-mail account and It cotains lots of personal and Important Information.
I personally dont think there's much u can do now other than to confront the person who u think has stolen ur password or wait for Yahoo to get back to you. If u have a genuine case, I think they will reset ur password for you. Good luck :)
First, keeping the same password for 6 yrs is not wise at all. Now that your account has been hacked; i can think of the following ways:
** (1)** Ask the suspect to return your account or you'd take legal action against him or her. If you think that's not going to work, then do option 2.
** (2)** Attack him/her using social engineering and a tool. In this case:
(a) do not reveal to him/her that you suspect him/her.
(b) buy a good key-logger. You can get one like 40 - 50 bucks (if you think ur account is worth that much, go ahead).
(c) send the key-logger to him/her attached to a file in and email, OR if you have access to his/her machine just install it there. NOTE: You have to learn how to configure and use it. It shouldn't be very difficult if you know a bit about computer.
(d) keep monitoring the logs your key-logger will send you to ur FTP account, until you find logs of logging-into-your-email-account.
** (3)** Try dictionary attack, i.e. keep trying possible passwords until you succeed (if u r lucky). Get the account locked for 12 hours, and then repeat the same after 12 hrs.
If you were using the free yahoo email, then i don't think Yahoo people can help you in anyway. If you are pretty much sure WHO has hacked ur account, then i would suggest method 1 or 2.
Send yourself an email to the hacked account and tell him/her that you know who s/he is. Also, tell the person that you will report him to yahoo and other authorities for stealing your identification. Also, tell him that you have bank account/credit card information in one of the emails in that account and the money has started to disappear. If the account's password has not been reset within a 24 hours, his contact information will be provided to cops.
This scared away my hacker once years ago while I was rotfl.
It has happend to me also ... I got it back by contacting Yahoo Customer service providing them required informations about my account. Don't worry you will get it back once they will contact you back. Normally they take a day or 2 for reply. They will ask you about the passwords which you have used in the past ....BTW how did he hack your account ??
To cut the long story short, he tried to swindle some money from me, I told him where to go and now he's done this. Don't worry I'm onto him and he knows It.
In extreme cases when you dont remember anything at all yahoo will ask you to fax/mail them the copies of documents that state the same name/DOB/Address etc as entered in the account information. But yes communicating with yahoo customer service is a very slow process.
Well Yahoo customer services finally replied to my e-mail and asked to me to forward my personal details to them, when they were satisfied that this account In question Is Infact mine, they sent ME a new password and voila!
I also reported the guy who tampered with my account and now he Is in TATA PAANI.
Bro, that is the ONLY best option. I was "phished" out of an account sometime back & asked a couple of whizkids here how to phish it back. The methods mentioned here are just time consuming. Phishing is the key to every answer...hacked account.
Plus, had u emailed yahoo, with ALL passwords u ever used, ur date of birth, name, etc, that u had registered with that account, u will get a reset account, with a new password, & hopefully ur data back.
I had for fun hacked a friends hotmail, & later given it back, just for the kicks. It just doesnt feel right. So I have stopped doing that, coz I wouldn;t want to be in the same scenario. Imagine ur data compromised. That is a nightmare.
