My "uncontrollable" child

So. I took my boyz to the dentist a few months back. We have this really crappy dental plan and the choice of dentists is very limited. I went to this dentist and he was pretty ok with me and took our plan so I scheduled the boyz. This guy is handicapped, he only has use of one arm so relies heavily on his assistant. Turns out he’s horrible with kids. No bedside manner. At all. He ignores them and lets the assistant do the talking. My boyz were terrified of him. WHAT a mistake it was to take them there. Anyway, he could not do x-rays, cleaning or flouride treatment and so got special permission from my ins co to go to a pediatric dental specialist for treatment because he’s an “uncontrollable” child.

His appt was today. The waiting room had really cool toys, the office staff was happy and friendly. Little guy loved it. When they called him in, he got a little scared till the doc came in, all smiles and race-cars talk and she got x-rays, cleaning, exam and fluoride treatment done in less than 30 minutes without one complaint or worry from my “uncontrollable” child!

I cant WAIT to switch to a better dental plan!!!

Re: My "uncontrollable" child

It is so important to have a good dentist, just like being comfortable with your doctor. My kids have an awesome dentist that makes them wear these hot looking glasses and frilly pink "bibs" and gives them a bag full of goodies on their way out. So far it has been a great experience!

Re: My "uncontrollable" child

As a child I was petrified of dentists and I had the worst one. He even looked evil... I kicked him between his legs. He fell over :)

He refused to have me as patient. My mom and dad were so embarassed. (True Story)

:rotfl:

i loved the dentist when i was a kid, how weird, but i guess thats why ive decide dto become 1

Alot of dentits can be very impatient with children becos they want to get on with the job, but an important part of the job is patient management and how u communicate with patients, u have to make them feel comfortable. kids require a littel bit more time and attention, and this is where alot of dentists go wrong, it can have a detremetal effect on the child as a bad experience with a dentist as a kid can lead the kid to continue to be fearful of the dentist even in adulthood
