Just today I received my official TOEFL score report from ETS. I’ve scored 293 out of 300 in the computer based test. And, I’ve obtained 6 out of 6 in the Essay Writing Test. I’m goin’ to apply for an F-1 student visa in a couple of months. So I just wanna know from you guys who are there on student visas about ‘how much do these score actually affect the visa chances???’
And hey, when compared to the paper-based test, I’ve scored exactly 670.

Basically the TOEFL will let the counselor know that you won't have any problems reading/understanding English as a student ... though if you don't understand what he is saying, then he might have doubts on how you scored that high in TOEFL.
From my experience, what matters is the $$$ ... working at the international office I have seen people with 500 being given visa and scores high as yours being denied.
The following factors will improve your chances of getting a visa
1) financial resources, so they know you wont "slip" once u get to US.
2) A valid reason for you to return to Pakistan e.g. family business etc.
3) Type of school and type of degree, and how well does it coincide with what you have been doing so far.
but then i have seen lamers with bad toefl scores going to crappy community colleges with doctored bank statements etc too.
I would emphasize financial backing as well as evidence of compelling reasons why you will return to Pakistan
show them you have enuff funds in ur sponser’s account and they will be more than happy to let u go .. ofcourse now you cant get on his/her (interviewer) nerves and at the same time expect to get the visa. just be relaxed and even if you are, pretend u r not really dying to get to USA.. and obviously if rejected dont pick a fight and if accepted dont start jumping in joy.. the rest is all fair game..
