My Take on Swat Deal

There are two major players in deciding Pakistan’s policy when it comes to Taliban, Army and US.

Recently the US objective has been to break up Qaeda and Taliban alliance and they are prepared to negotiate with Taliban on condition that they expel Qaeda from their areas. In last few months we have also seen that Taliban have stopped targetting armed forces. In Musharraf era dozenz of suicide bombings took place targeting army envoys, airforce and ISI officials, butall seem to have stopped now.
So both US and army have good deal to gain from truce with Taliban and are both have probably given green signal to Zardari to go ahead with this deal.

Re: My Take on Swat Deal

you haven't read the recent news i think, Pak Army lay down the arms after lost the battle to Taliban (local Taliban's). Do you think these FC guys got their brain chopped off on daily basic's .. and Army personal who stop wearing their official clothes in public are doing just for fun?

Subha/Shaam their is suicide attacks on security forces, we heard that mostly Police men died, they died.. because they are the freaking first line of defense, FC & Army came after that. These poor souls who always undermine by Pakistani's, less payed, less trained... stand guard the posts, which led the road to Army camps, :)

Re: My Take on Swat Deal

"Taliban" is now a mixed bag, its not the same raised by Pakistan. Once the original Taliban's winning streak extended in Afghanista a big chunk of 'local' warlords joined the bandwagon. After that they realized the power of 'religion'. After US invasion of Afghanistan many ran towards Pakistan (including Mullah Omar and Zaeef). Now Pakistani dacoits, thugs, tribals and all kinds of criminal joined the Taliban wagon seeing how they could exploit religion to gain control over regions. Swati Taliban now can be seen separate from Mehsud's TTP, though both are crooks and criminals but you can see that all these guys are using the term 'Taliban' but infact they are not really the ones.

We'd like to believe that they have given up attacking army, even if that is true then increase of attacks on civilians should be reason enough to whip them hard.
