My skin care!

Hi there all guppies hug

thought i’d stop harassing Gina for a change  ( although please do post a reply :frowning: )

My skin care consists of neutrogena daily face scrub, 3 in 1 toner ( neutrogena) and either e45, or neutrogena oil free moisturiser / neutrogena daily defense one. I always wear my Clinique SPF 40 ontop of my moisturiser.

i get regular facials, and have been applying ubtan when i have the time!

i use bare escentuals make up , and remove my make up with origins face wash or seaweed face wash OR neutrogena make up remover

Problem is my wedding is roughly 2.5 months away, and i sometimes get an odd day where the pimples/ spots sprout up because my skin feels greasy.

i really am struggling to find a good moisturiser as my skin is drying around my chin area my it seems to oil up on my forehead and nose at the end of the day !

can anyone critize my skin care and advise on any moisturiser and sunblock that wont make me break out / look tanned ( some sunblocks are tinted and make me look tanned!!) or grey/ white!

i am happy with neutrogena as a face wash it does stop the spots i find.. but obviously thanks to crappy moisturisers my pores are clogging up. my make up slides off at the end of the day 5.30’ish pm ( do you guys touch up during the day??)

OH i use the dirty under ground tube too :frowning:

Please advise guys - its getting sunnier in london and i’m always out and about on meetings i need something to help!

xx

Re: My skin care!

Regarding moisturising:

I'm no skin care expert, but it could be that your'e putting too much on your skin by using a moisturiser then an spf cream on top of that. If you're looking for decent sun protection then use sunsense spf 50* - it's got an invisible tint, its hydrating enough for normal skin and provides more than enough sun protection for London. (*Recomended by Gina the skin care goddess herself) It's available in Superdrug and Chemists.
Having said that - you're using bare minerals so that does provide you with an spf of 15 which usually suffices for our great British weather.
I'm a firm believer in keeping your day cream light and not too thick, (our skin gets clogged enough from our poor diets and polluted air, without it having to suffer from over chemicalised thick creams) and currently am looking for a light day cream for the cloudy days, with a decent enough spf for uk weather, something that won't clog pores as i reapply after wudu.
(Stoppit recomended olay regenersit as a moisturiser i think - if shes reading was going to ask - it's not too heavy, and is it light but hydrating enough? )

Hope that was some help!

Re cleanser
If you're cleansing and toning routine is working for you - that's great, and i wouldnt recommend making drastic changes esp so close to your wedding. BUT, i would advise all guppies to look into using cream cleansers and gently exfoliating with muslin cloths. Not only are they more luxurious but they are suitable for all skin types, much prefered than the usual foaming stuff which contains the same foaming agent ingredient that fairy liquid and most prob your shampoo does.
The creme de la mer of them all is liz earles, but there are other cheaper alternatives.

Re: My skin care!

Gina's advice is always FAB!! i have pm'd her too but i know she is really busy and has a lot of pm's!!

I found sunsense invisible tint still wasnt all that great for me , mine was a brown shade ?? can we get it from superdrugs/ boots??

i looked into Olay regenerist but i was really confused !! - Stoppit help :)

I have liz earle products at home... i bought them 2/3 years ago 2 bottles are un opened! i dont think they are usable now ?

i dont particularly want to leave neutrogena right now its seriously helping minus the one big spot on the middle of my forehead !! but i need a good moisturiser with spf to help as i am sure i am being clogged up!!

Re: My skin care!

Hi, in my opinion it is light but moisturising enough. I think a moisturiser with spf15 is more than enough or if your foundation has spf15. But if you want a higher spf, do try to get a moisturiser that contains it so you’re not putting too much on.

This is the one I use: Amazon.co.uk

I’m really pro using a light moisturiser (if your skin is oily) and then sorting out dry spots with some olive oil and witch hazel.

SoniaA, if you’re willing to give it a try, buy this witch hazel spray:http://www.naturallythinking.com/products/Witchazel.html
It’s great for combating spots and for oily skin too. After a shower, spritz your face with this. If you any dry spots (such as your chin), spritz some witch hazel onto a cotton pad to dampen it and then drop a single drop of olive oil (virgin, cold pressed) on this. Rub the wet/oiled part of the cotton on the dry spot and it should moisturise it nicely and slough off the dry bits (the witch hazel on the pad will stop the oil being overly greasy). Then proceed to moisturise.

At night, I’m currently using this and I don’t really need to olive oil in the morning now: http://www.naturallythinking.com/products/Marine-Collagen-Facial-Cream.html

Re: My skin care!

Hi stoppit!!

is it this one ( the olay cream )

i will get the witch hazel to for the breakout that i get ( usually cause is period / time of month / touching my face!)

if i get this cream , can i use it at night ( bed time?)

i know olay is cheaper on amazon but i really need to do something now!

Re: My skin care!

Hiya, it’s this one Pardon Our Interruption

The other looks good with the spf30 and all but I have no idea of what it’s like :s

I used it at night until I got the marine collagen one and didn’t experience any problems.

Re: My skin care!

oO its on sale!

i am not sure which one to go for... the regenerist seems to attract me more purely because of a higher spf!

Re: My skin care!

@Sonia
tell me ur age? caz according to my opinion olay regenerist is best if u r over 26.
as ur skin is oily i will refer u olay classic. it is light and non greasy. or if u wanna best above it then try once loreal hydrafresh. i hope u will get good result of it. it is non-greasy and refreshing look on ur face. and very light easily absorb.

Re: My skin care!

what is olay regenerist going to have in it that's not good if you're under 26?

Re: My skin care!

im 22... turning 23 in 1 month!

Re: My skin care!

Sonia, don’t sweat it. I started using it at about the same age after trying a lot of moisturisers because it was non greasy but moisturising. If it suits your skin, who cares what age group it is marketed at?!

It’s all a load of BS if you ask me. So many products under different brand names are the exact same things. Johnson and Johnson own both ROC and Neutrogena, even though the two brands are marketed at very different demographics. I used an expensive ROC lip balm that later the exact same product was branded under Neutrogena for less than half the price!

Re: My skin care!

Stoppit :) i feel battered anyway working in central london infront of a pc + clients all day i reckon these creams will help keep my youth!

i am going to go for the one your recommended as its half the price if i am happy with it then i will get the regenerist!

Bare escentuals mineral veil ( the thing you put ontop of foundation ) i have the SPF 25 one.

SPF just indicates how long it will work right? not that it will stop you tanning!

Re: My skin care!

Sonia - sorry to hijack your thread, but stoppit - hows the marine cream from naturallythinking? I use the elemis pro collagen marine cream at night and it's one of the best i've ever used. BUT it does come with a hefty price tag. The elemis one has a lovely light texture but is really moisturising, i'm tempted to try the naturlythnk one, but cant find any reviews?

Re: My skin care!

I work in central too :)

spf is a measure of the effectiveness of the sunscreen.

spf15 is 92% effective against UVB. you really need something that will protect against UVA as well as UVB.

since i wear spf all year around, i do find it stops my face getting any tan though.

Re: My skin care!

Hi Summayyah, it has some reviews on the page if you scrolll down (one from someone who used to buy Elemis) but no completely independent reviews. It's a small company based in Carshalton. I've been buying their other products, such as witch hazel, tea tree oil, rose water for a while, and recently rosehip oil. It's all really good quality so I thought I would try the moisturiser. I have never used the Elemis one but it sounds similar with a light texture but really moisturising. Since my skin produces a lot of oil during the day, I prefer to use it at night. Only been using it while, so I can't comment on long term effectiveness and results but I really like it!

Re: My skin care!

Thanks.

Re: My skin care!

Sunsense has a light coloured tint, but it goes on clear. You can get it easily from boots, but not sure about boots.

If youre liz earle products are unopened - could give it a shot, maybe test out on your arm or something? Some of my products are old and work just as fine when i bought them provided they are stored well, but lizearle uses active botanicals so not sure. What were u doing hoarding fab products like liz earle anyway?? They are the only products i use up very quickly!

Re: My skin care!

Olay is milder than a lot of things Sonia has been using so far... although I've pm'ed you but it may help other girls here. Neutrogena is pretty harsh if u don't have active acne, it strips u're skin off of natural oils and u're skin feels the need to produce more. Tea-tree oil and witch hazel both will help keep the oily skin under control. I also think u're using too many products which includes the neutrogena range, scrubs, ubtan etc.

Stick to a good cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine and scrub 2-3 times a week..

Re: My skin care!

Give 'Cetaphil Acne Principles' a try.

Re: My skin care!

thread jackers!

I got olay cream + night cream... i have had a break out on my forehead which was wanting to show up since last week! stress :(
