As I lay in bed one night, waiting for sleep or wakefulness to come claim me, I realized something. My sister, who is 11, had just said something, and I had laughed profusely. I don’t remember what she said, but I hadn’t laughed because it was cute or anything, I had laughed because it had been trully witty and funny. I also remembered other times when she’d said something like that. I realized that I had been seeing her not as a smart 11-year old, but more like someone around 13 or 14 who sometimes did stupid things. The only thing I could do was feel ashamed at not always remembering that she was still a kid, and appreciating her intelligence. Cherish your siblings, no matter where you look, you won’t find others like them.
