It sometimes happens
that the woman you meet and fall in love with
is of that strange Transylvanian people
with an affinity for cats.
You take her to a restuarant, say, or a show,
on an ordinary date, being attracted
by the glitter in her slitty eyes and her catlike walk,
and afterwards of course you take her in your arms
and she turns into a black panther
and bites you to death.
Or perhaps you are saved in the nick of time
and she is tormented by the knowledge of her tendency:
That she daren't hug a man
unless she wants to risk clawing him up.
This puts you both in a difficult position--
panting lovers who are prevented from touching
not by bars but by circumstance:
You have terrible fights and say cruel things
for having the hots does not give you a sweet temper.
One night you are walking down a dark street
And hear the pad-pad of a panther following you,
but when you turn around there are only shadows,
or perhaps one shadow too many.
You approach, calling, "Who's there?"
and it leaps on you.
Luckily you have brought along your sword
and you stab it to death.
And before your eyes it turns into the woman you love,
her breast impaled on your sword,
her mouth dribbling blood saying she loved you
but couldn't help her tendency.
So death released her from the curse at last,
and you knew from the angelic smile on her dead face
that in spite of a life the devil owned,
love had won, and heaven pardoned her.

Catwoman, a.k.a. Selina Kyle, is the world’s greatest cat-burglar. She prowls the streets of Gotham City in search of booty. Also called the Princess of Plunder, the Feline Felon, and the Mistress of Malevolence, this whip-wielding male fantasy has been keeping Batman hot and bothered for over fifty years now. Catwoman can stand her ground in a fight with any man, including Batman, and is sometimes the sex kitten and sometimes the steely avenger, but most of the time just a thief, trying to avoid the spotlight and innocent bystanders.
Unlike most of Batman’s foes, Catwoman is not out for mass destruction or world domination. She’s in it for the money. She has even been known to do the occasional good deed. When she is surrounded by bad, she is good. When surrounded by good, she is bad. When surrounded by Batman, meow-w! Catwoman and Batman have developed a grudging respect for each other over the years, and sometimes even more. The sexual tension when they are together is almost palpable. That they are made for each other is obvious to everyone but them.
"For years, comic fans have drooled over the feral, feline thief… If we’re so enamored of a picture on paper, or mesmerized by the beautiful actresses…who don the claws, imagine how it must be for the Dark Knight. Who will ever really understand the chemistry that exists between these two? The second Batman film suggests that they are attracted by shared pain, and that may be the best way to explain it. The differences between Batman and Catwoman may simply be gender and on which side of the law they reside. Even that can change, however. (No, not the gender.) Catwoman has a streak of good in her she can’t suppress, no matter how hard she tries. She gripes about the meddlesome sisters at the old church, but still presents them a major portion of her “income.” She questions her reasons constantly, but still granted refuge to a young girl named Arizona. She dislikes killing, and will never place innocents at risk. She finds Batman …making her reconsider her lifestyle every time she encounters him. It’s Catwoman’s nature to rebel against authority, to cut away anything she thinks is restraining her. She needs action and danger for no other reason than to remind her she’s alive… Of course, that’s all speculation and conjecture. The truth is, right now someone is losing a fortune in precious jewels. The Dark Knight Detective is straining to ignore the desire within him and a stirring in his heart with a weak reminder that she is breaking the law. Calicos, tabbies, and siamese are prowling the streets around the lithe young woman with the whip. "
