I have so many childhood memories associated with this zoo and the museam infront of it… Every weekend from beaconhouse school we would come here and feed the rabbits and the monkeys… Its been a while since I went to this zoo…

Yeah the zoo was really nice, great place for kids and family.. The lion there was donated by a guy from my village..

I try to keep myself awake even in America.. I dont know, but the only person I feel comfortable driving with is myself. In Pakistan, it hard to fall asleep anyways, I was sorta fascinated by eveything I say, so I was never bored to the point of falling asleep.
I never made a long journey from the airport, my relatives live about ten minutes from Islamabad airport

Longest journey I took over there was from Pindi ot Kalar Kahar by the motorway and then from Chakwal by GT road. And also from Wah Cant to Muree..
Now on corruption…
I didnt see any corruption although I expected it to be everywhere. I noticed that people are very nice to you when they find out you from someplace else.. Corruption I think effects the Locals more.
Here are a few interesting experiences

-The police stopped me, my uncle, and another guy for riding three on one motorcycle. They told the cop I was visiting from America and he let us go

-I got to go on Pindi cricket stadium grounds, only after making it clear to the grounds keeper that I was an American tourist.
-Complete strangers having dinner in some shop asked me to join them!! Shocking to me.
-The airport police didn;t believe I was an American so they asked for my drivers license which I didn;t have, but when I asked their supperior to let me go saying “Uncle ma bhaas student houn” they let me go…
-The owner of the Duty free shop decided to make conversation even though I had never met him before. We talked for three hours.. He gave me tea and sweets, and then finally gave me a free book from the shop… Ofsourse I bought him a present aswell..
So overall, I did not experince any of the so-called corruption.. Even the infamouse PIA ground crew was extrememly polite and did not give me any trouble.. I actually had to leave my bag with them unattended, afraid they might have removed something, I was pleasently surprised later when I discovered that nothing had been removed.

I asked about corruption because I heard from some Aunties that the people at the airport deliberately give you trouble…saying that you don’t have this or you don’t have that…and after getting tired arguing with those guys …the women would give some money to pass through…I was just curious to know about your experience…

Yeah I had that experience in a visit in 92’.They usually claim the luggage is to heavy, and then they will either have you pay an extra 1000 rupees or they will confiscate whatever they think is weighing you down… Some people I kow lost stuff this way. But fortunately, things seem to be changing…I for one found it was very pleasent dealing with the people at the airport. A friend of mine told me that he was at the airport and one of the officers gave him a hard time. So he reported this officer to one of the Army guys that was in charge.. The Army guy took the officer to the side and slapped him

Well, I was surprised myself. The media paints a really ugly picture, and people go to the country thinking they will need an armed guard at all times. I was pleasently surprised.

By the way, I think they make you pay for overweight luggage in American Airports aswell. I find that we tend to be a lot more critical of Pakistan for following international norms... Go figure.
