Phatima, I have one too, but I keep it in a bigger tank with 4 mountain minos and two snails.
The bottom is layered with black gravel and I've put in artificial and live plants and dropped a few hand picked agates on the bed.
Have you taught him any tricks yet phati?
You gotta teach him some, they are so intelligent.
Also if you keep em in a tank with no filter than they will come to the surface of the water to breathe, just like yours is. you can tell by the many air bubbles in the water that the fish has come to the surface to breathe.
They also jump so keep that lid closed, mine wasnt happy when i put it into a tiny bowl to clean the tank and decided to jump over the counter and the sink and land on the kitchen floor :D
Haider its a male fish, females are plain and dont have the flowing tail.
waqi06, fighter fish is used to living in tiny cramped spaces, they come from thailand and they usually live in elephant foot prints filled with water, so keeping them in small tanks doesnt do them any harm.
But I agree that if you can put them in a bigger tank it wouldnt do you any harm.
Here is mine, the tank is sitting where there is too much light so i cant take a better pic than this one.

LegallyBrown, yea this is actually my sister's fish and I'm watching over it while she's in Pakistan. I had a bigger tank for my own beta who died last winter when my brother took it and threw it out into the snow :(.
Your fish are beautiful. My other one (that died) was the purple/red shade like that first one you posted. The best thing about these fish is that they're pretty cheap. What other kinds of fish do you have?
I went through this tropical fish phase not too long ago where I just got really excited about buying fish and stuff. I lost the spunk for it now, but it'd be nice to have a fish tank full of pretty colors and fish and stuff. They're so cute :)

phati, i've got a fresh water tank at the moment.
I'll take a few pics of it but cause its sitting right opp the window the light makes it awfully hard to take good pics of it.
I'd love to get a box fish but they are salt water and you can just keep one in a tank :(

you use the food pellets to get him to do stuff and when he does it reward him with a pellet.
Just like teaching any other animal
