** PML-N not for overthrowing govt undemocratically: Nawaz** Updated at: 2122 PST, Wednesday, September 02, 2009
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-N Chief Nawaz Sharif Wednesday said the amendments introduced by the dictator should completely be set aside and the first step in this regard would be to discard the 17th amendment.
Talking to media in Lahore, the former prime minister said change of governments is no longer a solution for the crisis faced by the country. No one should be involved in the appointment of the judges except the masses and judiciary.
“We will not take part in any undemocratic process to overthrow the present government,” he said. He invited the government to come forward and have a dialogue in the light of the Charter of Democracy which, he said, appears to have become a piece of paper.
He said the dictators did not select the present parliament. No one could have introduced amendments in the Constitution of Pakistan, had the democratic governments not been overthrown by dictators, he added.
Answering a question he said, “Saudi Arab ought not be involved in the politics of Pakistan and I have no idea as to why Musharraf visited the kingdom.”
He said despite the Governor Raj PML-N never pushed for mid-term elections.
“Some other institutions are playing the role of the Parliament,” he alleged.
PML-N will welcome any package of reformations which is brought about after the abolishment of the 17th Amendment.
He said, “I am fasting and openly declare that I have no grudge against Musharraf.”
Nawaz Sharif demanded that an independent commission be formed for the resolution of the crisis at hand.
Pervez Musharraf should be brought to book for a prosper Pakistan, he added.
