My one month old baby girl

Aoa mothers, hope all r fine n busy with their kids :

My one month old baby girl sleep pattens are so unpridictable, one day she sleep well n othe day she doesnt. yesterday nite she wasnt sleeping well till morning, she wakes up afte evry one or two hour and today she is sleeping well for three to four hours,:what can be the problem? She also sacre in dream n jumps suddenly n wakes up. wht should i do?

Re: My one month old baby girl

Is anything about her routine different when she does not sleep well ?
Like may be she is not full so wakes up often to feed or she has not burped after feed so gets up becuase of that.

Try to figure that out.
Do you swaddle her ? If not try it, that may help with the sudden jumping and waking up.

Re: My one month old baby girl

she's only a month old! give her some time to get settled into being alive outside the womb. there's a lot of new things, new senses, new development, new stimulation that she's never known before- its a busy time for her little brain and body- no wonder her sleep is erratic. its one of the things she still has to figure out. and i agree- swaddle her. she'll sleep better swaddled. is she waking up to eat?

Re: My one month old baby girl

thx for the reply! i do feed and she takes about an hour or mor than that for feedong, she also takes braks during feeding. i do burp her but dnt know whats the reason. and yeah i swaddle her but afte some time, she start to get rid of swaddling by pushing it and she wakes up crying when swaddled. i dnt swaddle her tight

Re: My one month old baby girl

im trying my level best to give her time but i get woried coz of her sleep patten, is she alrite? has she any problem? Sometimes she wake up to eat, sometimes she doesnt. wht should i do so that she sleeps well

Re: My one month old baby girl

sleep pattern for babies does not develop until they are a little older.
are you bfing ? babies tend to fall asleep while feeding, make sure you wake her up and she finishes her feed and not fall asleep while feeding.
Otherwise she wll be getting her sleep during the feed and then wake up early again for next feed.
An hour or more is too long for a feed (this is only my opinion). May be 20 mins on each breast during which the baby is awake most of the time.
But please remember what worked for me may not work for you. I do not want you to get engorged (one of the worst pain) by feeding only 40 mins and not an entire hour.
There are swaddle blankets available that have a velcro. I think that helps, otherwise babies can kick and undo the swaddle.
If she gets up by getting startled, she may still be sleepy. Try patting/rubbing/rocking her back to sleep.
Also babies get the sleep they need.

Things will get better as she gets bigger inshaAllah

Re: My one month old baby girl

thx for reply, yea m bfeeding. she take breaks n sometimes closes her eyes but when i put her down , she wakes up n want more n she does that again n again unless she is full i guess. she spend almost two hours awake in which she takes feed in intervals, sometimes play or just take rest. thx for the tip, i will try it

Re: My one month old baby girl

my baby is 2 month old n still he's not having good sleeping pattern....sometimes he sleeps through the nite sometimes he wants to play at night n sleep during daytime.....almost everyday is different but i just make sure that he gets 14-16 hours of sleep everyday...but yes every baby is different.....i think it will take time for her too....

Re: My one month old baby girl

my baby sleep pattern is so disturbed, last nite she woke up at 8 pm afte 3hr sleep then she slept at 11pm and woke up at 11:30pm then slept then wokeup @ 12:30am and then slept at 1am till 2am and then was awake from 2-4am, wts wrong with her?

Re: My one month old baby girl

Nothing is wrong with her woman! She is a 1 month old... She has no routine nor can u instill one at this age...

Let her be... She is a baby and is learning... As long as she isnt crying non stop...its all good.

Re: My one month old baby girl

aww :( my baby has the exact same problem he doesnt sleep well at nite (not everyday)whenever i lie down he gets up n starts crying....n he also usually look scared when he wakes up....i keep on reciting ayatul kursi n 4 quls....but i still dont understand the EXACT problem.....

p.s he sleeps peacefully after fajjar azaan....

Re: My one month old baby girl

^ he's a BABY! ;)
you new moms have got to be more patient with your little ones. imagine, a few months ago, their whole world was your womb. they didn't know anything outside of that. imagine yourself in that position. no wonder it takes them so long to settle down! sleep is nothing when you're adjusting to a new environment entirely.

Re: My one month old baby girl

To add to this, swaddling is recommended for this reason. It helps babies feel like they are still in the womb.

I am a big big fan of swaddling and we swaddled Jr for 8 months. Night time swaddling was a must. He used to get scared of his hands. And he would fall asleep the moment he was swaddled.

Babies cannot be forced whatsoever..look at me now..trying to wake her up(for feed) since an hour but she just wouldnt wake up:cb: have tried everything but she is sleeping so peacefully:wub:

Re: My one month old baby girl

i agree with u all that she is a baby but even she is sleepy she doesnt want to sleep, wakeup again n again. i m bfding her and i feel so tired to feed her constantly. when she doesnt sleep, she want to be fed. another prb, her stools r sometimes vey hard and sometimes very soft, liquid type. she cries when poop hard to push and also sometimes she refuses to bfding by crying n moving mouth away. what shold i do?

Re: My one month old baby girl

newborn stool is liquidy. and usually yellow in color.

if it's hard then check with your doc.

are you bfing her to put her to sleep? maybe try something different. if you bf her to sleep it means she sleeps without a burp. that's not going to lead to a peaceful sleep.

Re: My one month old baby girl

yesterday night was very tough, my lil angel couldnt sleep till3am . she slept hardly two hours in ten hours. i called her doctor, he said to give coloc drops n panadol drops, that also didnt help, she was still awake. i was abt to cry coz of her rstlessness n mine too.now i gave her a bath n fee her, now i hope she sleeps calm n dnt wakeup soon.

Re: My one month old baby girl

she might be waking up from hunger... does she completely drain each breast before finishing feeding? have you considered supplementing with formula just before her nighttime sleep if she doesn't? my kid cried once for about 4 hours straight and we finally took him to the hospital- we weren't sure what to do- turns out he was hungry! d'oh.

also, don't give her medication unnecessessarily (i cannot spell that word right!). i'm not sure why your doctor would recommend panadol out of the blue- its not helpful for colic as far as i know. just because a drug is formulated for a baby doesn't mean it shoul dbe given just like that.

anyway, do the following:
feed her until your breasts are drained entirely. if she's not doing that, or is still restless after that, consider formula just before bedtime.
burp her.
swaddle her.
remember that new babies usually do feed every 2-3 hours and rarely sleep through the night. its tough as a new mom, and i sympathise, but knowing that as a fact helped me not fight it as much. can your husband help rock her to sleep while you take a little break?

good luck!

Re: My one month old baby girl

thx somegroovy for reply! She takes the feed and yes i drain my breasts but sometimes she moves her mouth away from my breasts n dnt wantto be fed. i contionously fee her when she cries but dnt know why she wake up again n again. i havnt used formula yet cz i can see milk when i fed her.
doctor told if she has some pain then give panadol drops if she is rstless. he recommendd minicol drops for colic. ido

When my daughter was just under 2 months, I posted this thread about sleeping. Some of the tips in there may help you:
