About two months back we purchased the Samsung 6200 55" (model UN55FH6200) Smart TV. I have overall been very happy with the purchase except for one thing…they removed the YouTube app from the SmartHub!! I have spent the last 2 days banging my head against the wall trying to pair YouTube from my iPad with the TV so that we can watch from there…no dice! It keeps asking me to enter the pairing code from the YouTube app on the TV which is non existent.
After exhaustive google searches and calling Samsung, it looks like with all newer models, their is no longer the option to pair. Apparently it’s because of some stupid Samsung-YouTube licensing fallout
I found a “link to YouTube” in the SmartHub, but it’s atrocious, incredibly slow and doesn’t really work.
So can any of you tech gurus tell me how I can watch/use YouTube from my Not-so-smart-after-all-tv
Does your TV yt app gives you pairing code on the screen?
If your phone and TV are connected to same WiFi, your phone yt app should have a pairing icon.
Buy a 35 dollar Chromecast dongle, and
Stream YouTube from your laptop or android device to your tv through it. We watched the whole worldcup through chromecast on our big screen. We don't have smart tv

They are adding more and more options to the Chromecast. Chromecast makes the dumb tv smart.

My dumb tv was always pretty smart, as apart from Apple TV streaming box, I have a dedicated desktop pc equipped with wireless keyboard attached to it. But after connecting chromecast too, it really added another layer of smartness to it.

Looks like that's what I'll have to do....just makes me annoyed because netflix, hulu, amazon prime etc are all ready there in the Smart Hub...sirf youtube nahin. So it's like $35 just to stream youtube on the tv...not sure if that's a smart thing to do lol....any other benefits of Chromecast that I'm not already getting with the Samsung SmartHub?

Whatever you can do on your chrome browser on your laptop, you can throw it on your big screen. YouTube is one example.
I am going to share a great secret with you, if you have Hulu Plus account. Hulu has different deals with different channels and shows, and there are many shows that don’t allow Hulu to stream their contents through devices other than regular pc/laptop. For example, I cannot watch my favorite shows like “bizarre food” and “no reservations” on hulu plus on my devices (smart tv is also considered a device), but can watch on my laptop’s chrome browser, and then throw it on my big screen through chromecast so the whole family can watch together. Take that hulu plus.
That’s the whole issue…their is no YouTube app anymore…when I called samsung support they said I have to get it from YouTube. My niece was over yesterday and she has an older model of the same tv…the pairing icon shows up instantly on her iPhone was she’s at home but at my house wit my tv her iPhone couldn’t detect my tv. We tried 3 apple products an s5 and a nexus android tablet…no luck with pairing
I can’t find that stupid code anywhere. Where else can I look???
On a serious note, like many others suggested, chromcast or roku are probably the best. The whole smart apps on samsung is a joke. I don’t think its worth paying more money for 'smart’s.
Is your phone/ipad connected to the same router as the TV?
Actually if you dont mind spending 15 dollars more, Roku lite is an amazing box. There are plenty of free channels, plus your usual Netflix/Hulu/Amazon prime etc. It also has paid channels like Dish Network so one can subscribe to live Pakistani/Indian Channels.
ok, i am sorry. Because I dont have cable or dish at home, I am nuts about free TV. Apart from my HD antenna, I have Roku, Apple TV and chrome cast.
Oh I forgot to mention Jadoo tv, though we don’t watch it and used it only when my mom was visiting for 3 months.
I collected them over a long period. We still rent movies through apple tv. I know that is stupid to rent a movie for five dollars when you can go to red box and pick a blue ray DVD for less than $1.50, but you can’t beat the convenience. Plus the fact that you can airplay all your Apple devices through that, and back then, we were a hundred percent apple household.
Then we have another tv and I thought that if I can attach another streaming box, then kids can watch netflix there too. I did not want to spend 100 dollars for another Apple tv, so bought roku lite for fifty dollars.
Chrome cast we bought, just because it was only 35 dollars, plus now we are apple plus non apple family, so we could stream non apple devices through it on big tv.
