Here are some pics from my wedding in 2006. The mayon , barat and walima dresses r homemade i.e. stitched by the tailor but designed by me and all the hand work done by my khala (mayon dress) and my mom (barat and walima lehangas). Must sound crazy to prepare these wedding lehangas at home these days, but i took the risk cause what I liked in pak was too expensive and didn’t like what I could afford.
They might not be out of this world but they turned out fine in the end and are very special and dear to my heart as my mom nearly went blind doing the beadwork ..hehe.. spending 2 months on the wedding lehanga n 1 month on the walima lehanga. So below are some shots of my “non designer and home made dresses” . btw the mehandi and muqlawa dress was ready made n bought from an indian shop in Thailand cause i used to live there before moving to pak. N the tailors were thai not indians.
Just for who is curious about the cost, let me tell you that the cost for wedding lehanga came around 15,000 baht (10,000 for thai silk material & net for dupatta n shirt + 5000 for beads and crystals) or 30,000 rupees and for my walima lehanga 5000 baht or 10,000 rupees.
Ok i have no idea what Muqlawa is so please explain. Other than that howe lovely! I can see how much work is on that lehnga! Your mom and khala did that for you and its really special that they did! YOu look lovely MA and hope you and your husband will be happy :)
Oh wow! If you hadn't told us, I'd never guess any of this wasn't done professionally! Excellent craftsmanship! The work is so delicate and gorgeous! Love the mehndi dress and the lehnga for the barat looks so contemporary and gorgeous!

MASHALLAH... lovely outfits. and they must mean so much more than if u had gone out and had them made... so personal and made with love.. :)
Wow thats so amazing that they did all the kaam themselves, I can only imagine the time they spent on it! Now that is a dress to truly treasure and pass on to your daughter!!!!
Very very pretty stuff and so different from whats posted here in every other thread. Thank you for reminding us that designer is not the way to go for everyone.
It's all very pretty, Blue Emerald. I am 101% sure that these outfits shall mean to you 10000 times more than any designer outfit. It's so sweet and nice of your mom and khala to put all this effort, time, talent, and creativity in each and every piece in the time when people think OH WHY BOTHER DOING SUCH TIME CONSUMING WORK WHEN YOU CAN JUST PAY SOMEONE TO GET THINGS DONE. Very moving really!

Muklawa or choothi ki rasam is when the bride and groom go to the bride's paretnts house on the fourth day of the wedding and there is a feast with close relatives and the brides' parents give her a new jora (dress) and maybe some other gift. Not everyone does this rasam these days.
