My new dying wish :)

is to kill the freaking idiot who created the kaspersky anti-virus :kursi::bash:

Here’s my tale of horror:

My sister took the USB flash drive to her uni and un-surprisingly enough it came back with some sort of virus/trojan. I spotted it easily cuz there was a “New Folder.exe” file sitting pretty in the USB. I have NEVER had a problem with viruses or malware before cuz

  1. I keep my online adventures to safe sites and have used mozilla browsers since ages…I first used it when it was called Phoenix

  2. I keep my anti-virus on auto update. Never had any trouble with any viruses getting through. NOD32 is the anti-virus of choice for me.

Anyhoo…this unfortunate day, I scan the USB drive but NOD32 doesnt pick up anything…that was odd..so I opened one of the Word files in the USB and the buzzer goes off immeidiately. NOD32 says trojan detected and quarantines the file. so I click on newfolder.exe thinking maybe the virus will show up itself upon executing and NOD will detect it..it didnt  and that was that.

The thing removed the task manager command from my right click menu and I could not get into msconfig either.

I decided to give Kaspersky a try…BIG MISTAKE…BIG BIG BIG BIG MISTAKE.

The freaking thing slowed down my PC to halt..I have 1 GB ram and AMD X2 4200+ yet I could NOT open My Computer after i installed it. I right click on ***kasfreaky ***and i see this “Scanning for start up objects…4%”

I say FINE..I’ll give it sometime to finish the scan. I left the PC on and took my mom to my sister’s thinking it’ll be done when I get back…Guess what…I come back after an hour and the PC is still stuck and ***kasfreaky ***too at 4%

long story short: I ended up formatting my hard drive and kasfreaky was not one bit better than NOD32 in detecting anything.. I dont recommend it AT ALL..stay away.:mad:

Re: My new dying wish :)

Some other software maybe causing conflict with kaspersky... Since you formatted, I would have reinstalled the kaspersky and see if it does it again?

Re: My new dying wish :)

no. Thank you. I deleted the Kasfreaky set up file.

Re: My new dying wish :)

ehehe okay. I just suggested that if one would like to troubleshoot the problem further. :D

Re: My new dying wish

don’t tell me that! i was going to get it :bummer:

Re: My new dying wish :)

use zone alarm pro with anti virus, and never ever use internet explorer....
Interenet explorer is the biggest virus ever created....
Zone alarm's live update is the fasted online update i have ever seen in my life....
NOrton anti virus is a very poor and system hungry anti virus....
never use norton...
use zone alarm or pc cilin .........
I am also a firefox user since firfox 1.0 before this i was using Opera browser or Netscape browser...
these days firfox rules again.....

Re: My new dying wish :)

erm..Siberian Prince: Zone Alarm will be using Kasfreaky anti-virus engine from its 7.0 version on. Its current anti virus engine is CA which is nothing to wrtie home about.

Khumar: Try NOD32. When u have installed, I'll give u a link to customize it so that u can stay protected from viruses. It does a pretty good job and does not hog the resources at all

Re: My new dying wish :)

My friend never open the folders with the extension of .exe....those are files not folders.............:)

Re: My new dying wish

I know that :smack:

Re: My new dying wish :)

You should accept your mistake man. You clicked open a virus file to see if anti-virus would stop you or not. Freaking!

Re: My new dying wish :)

What is nod32? Sounds like a virus.

How do you (all) determine the strength of an anti-virus product?

Re: My new dying wish :)

I don't use any but still my laptop is very fast and free of virus.

Just keep the firewall on.
Use firefox.
Don't click on ads.
Visit realible website.
Always use google search( keep the safe search on and badware warning is very usefull)

Re: My new dying wish

Kaspersky is not for the novice :hehe:

Yes it will make your computer crawl and load the webpages very slowly. There are some settings that you can tweak to get this fixed. Still, based on m personal experiene, I wouldnt recommend it to beginner user.

But

When the worlds leading hax0r d00dz say that Kaspersky is the best defense against their virii, I take them seriously.

Re: My new dying wish :)

And what makes you so sure that you don't have a virus? There might be a dormant one without you even knowing about it. The viri coming out now-a-days are quite smart and stealth... they might be just sitting there and taking down all the necessary info and then one day its just gonna blow ur senses away .... hehe ... khair, aap key marzi bhai
