These are called the Baoding balls. They were first made in a town called Baoding in China, during the Ming dynasty. Reportedly, the followers of ancient Chinese medical theory oh *Jinglou *(known commonly as Acupuncture) believe that the balls when rotated in the palms in a certain way hit the pressure points related to your internal organs. These also make soothing chiming sound when rotated which is supposed to calm your nerves, lets say after a long stressful day.
Anyway, they are fun to play with
