I enjoyed the movie.. acting was good, it was nice seeing SRK & Kajol back together again, songs were nice and the overall message of the movie was lovely. Yes, I agree a few scenes were totally not needed, but they didn't take much away from the movie either.
However, it should definitely not be compared to 3 idiots.
If I can get myself to ignore the last 15 mins of the movie, and the imprudent choice of extras to play Obama and Bush, the movie was otherwise pretty decent. I've been an SRK detractor for as long as I can remember, and I still think Swades was his only worthwhile movie... but this one comes a close second.
Having interacted with a person who had Asperger's and another one with autism, I can say that the characterization of symptoms was well researched. Obviously some symptoms might have been exaggerated for screen impact, but there are just too many variables in autism spectrum disorders for anyone to claim that this was a good or bad depiction of the character's behavior.
Also, the movie had obvious touches of Forrest Gump style comedy-drama, but I'm glad it didn't directly copy any specific parts of that epic movie.
Finally, some people may be able to relate more to the types of treatment of Muslims shown in the movie - I certainly could - e.g. a friend of mine had her hijab snatched off multiple times at the University in the couple of months after 9-11. My dad's business was under surveillance by the FBI for a couple of months (yes, in Canada). A local musalla near my University was vandalized causing property damage... etc.

Finally watched it yesterday and I really liked it!
SRK's acting was awesome! He was cute and charming and heartfelt. Just spectacular.
Kajol made me cry like a little baby! I haven't cried so much in a movie for a very long time.
Kajol and SRK's chemistry is just incredible. Really good to see them both on screen.
I especially loved the fact that there were no song and dance numbers. It was so refreshing and made the movie so much more realistic.
The only part of the movie I could have done without was when a bunch of people show up in wilhemina, georgia after watching Khan on tv. That was completely unnecessary and took a lot away from the movie.
