KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has pulled out of the RBS National Twenty20 Cup under progress in Karachi due to unknown reasons.
Younis was supposed to lead Abbottabad Rhinos in the Twenty20 spectacle but the senior batsman has decided against featuring in the event that has attracted almost all the country’s leading cricketers.
Taimur Khan Afridi, the Abbottabad Rhinos’ manager, confirmed on Monday that Younis has withdrawn from the tournament. Afridi said that he was unaware of Younis’s reasons to pull out of the event.
Younis, who retired from Twenty20 Internationals after leading Pakistan to a title-winning triumph in the ICC World Twenty20 in England last summer, normally captains Peshawar Panthers in domestic events but this time he was entrusted with the responsibility to spearhead Rhinos’ campaign in the Twenty20 Cup.
The Karachi-based player was recently involved in a controversy when he was accused of roughing up a spectator during a match of the inaugural Karachi Champions League at a local ground last month.
Moin Khan, the former Pakistan captain, took a swipe at Younis for missing the country’s premier T20 competition. “Younis should have played the tournament to motivate youngsters,” Moin told Geo Super on Monday.
Well, what did you expect? Another madness story surrounding Younis Khan. I am wondering if Paki players do this deliberately or it just comes to them naturally to be always in the news for something ridiculous?
It's really not as big of a deal as u people are making it out to be. Younus has retired from the T20 format so it doesn't really matter if he plays in a domestic T20 tournament or not. You could say he could have lifted a hopeless Rhinos team as captain but then again, you could also argue another younger player could get a chance to prove his worh right before the WC.
Guys, stop making a mountain out of a mole hill. Younis does not like playing in T20s, he has already retired from International T20, why would he play in a domestic tournament?

Everybody here knows that already, so you guys are not providing a valid excuse for Younis. He was given captaincy for this tournament and he accepted it, but when the tournament started he pulls out? There is something definitely wrong with him.
^ Show me an article where it says Younus Khan ‘accepted’ captaincy. The PCB goofballs named him captain of the Rhinos team, when Younus, even when he used to play T20’s always captained the Panthers team. I think you’re already forgetting what happened with Razzaq, where he was removed as Lions captain and replaced by Butt without any legitimate reason. Now, im not justifying Razzaq playing for Stallions in protest but anyone would be pissed if they got replaced by Salman Butt as captain and that too for a T20 tournament
The fact of the matter remains if Younus played this tournament, then good for him and good for his team. But if he pulls out, it doesnt matter at all. Plus, I think its better for Younus to not play this tournament and instead concentrate to get his form back for ODI’s and most importantly, test cricket. Thats where we really need him
We are all talking about the article posted, it said “Younis Khan was supposed to lead the Rhinos”, which means he was appointed captain. Selection of a player as captain of a team is not done without a player’s knowledge/consent, however he can be removed as captain without consulting him.
^ I guess then you dont know how PCB works then. PCB does not ask players before it names them captain for a domestic tournament. Btw, Akhtar was supposed to lead the Leapords team but they played their first game today and there was no sign of Akhtar? I wonder if he pulled out too or is injured again? once again it proves PCB had no idea what it was doing and named Akhtar captain when obviously either he's injured or not playing this tournament.
