I read with surprise some of the responses here. Most blame the gal and overwhelmingly, there is a hugely negative opinion about those who persue the arts. sure, this gal gets a bit racy but cannot be considered a porn star, and actually doesnt dress any racier than hollywood or bollywood stars. Actually, if she had been born to more accepting parents then they could have guided her toward more classical venues of acting, dancing and singing. Something that is so very important to a person cannot be taken away by locking them in a basement and forbidding them to do what they love most. Supportive parents could likely have convinced her to stick to community theatre while persuing a college degree in a field more acceptable to them.
The parents she had drove her out and made her more defiant. She blames Islam because her parents veiled their rules and regulations by using the religion.
I think the whole family is kind of a train wreck but I dont think the gal deserves the bashing that she's getting here.

She needs help. She is crazy, show off, or attention seeker. 80% fault.
Her parents need help. They were over protective, strict and not really religious by any means. 20% fault.
The 'headline' appears to have no truth.

I'm not blaming the girl, but I'm MAD at her for linking her abuse with Islam, regardless of what she says at the end in a small sentence, the article has been written in a way to suggest that her parents behaviour is to be expected of Muslim parents.
I still believe she is exaggerating for attention grabbing headlines.
If this lady / family were not Muslims, no one would even print this story.

She is exaggerating. Trying to find a justification for what she is today. Who knows she may be the same in her childhood and hence the parents were strict with her.

n for someone who said if she was non-muslim n blaming her religion so actually how often do u see that? how many non-muslims do that.even though there r still strict catholic families, hindus n sikhs, even jews it still doesn't become public. n when there r stories abt abusive non muslim families their religions r never picked. Western mediat just look for opportunities to bad mouth islam. Whoever wants to follow satan's way will def blame islam for not allowing u to do u want. n those who think islam is not strict yes it is. if a kid doesn't pray parents r allowed to physically punish them. n how can u disown a spoilt teenager? social n human services involve nahi ho jain gee? infact u r stuck with evil kids. she doesn't seem like only wanting to dance n act. if do it right way within limits so many girls in pak r doing it n they finally convince families too.

I still blame the parents entirely. They coul've kicked her out of the family. END OF STORY. Why would you go around doing crazy things to your child?

well i dnt think her parents were that bad..why only her??..how come the other kids were fine??..no no she had her own nasty ideas of life…just trying to justify herself..if she cared abt her family at all truly then she wudnt be talking about them like this in public
second if she knew islam and the holy Quran so well she’d have known atleast one single thing: HIJAB…she seems desperate for exposure and attention…maybe her family’s to blame but tht’d be just a mere 3% share of what she’s now!!..
I haven't seen the pictures yet, but just by reading her story it seems such a hard life!
We should not ignore the abuse she has been through. I think if the parents had raised her with love and care, the MORALS would have stayed WITH HER.
However, her parents abused her to bring her to the right path... that was very wrong.

If her parents were really so strict and crazy, wud they have allowed the other daughter to leave her husband? If they were so crazy, why did the other daughter agree to marry the cousin?

I agree with ur point that she’s desperate for exposure which kinda contradicts the fact that she says she wants to be a ‘real’ actress or singer. I remember reading a story she’d sold on some celebrity she’d slept with in one of the tabloids, describing what he was like in bed etc. It’s normally only strippers and topless models who do this sort of thing. Also, she came accross quite badly in that ‘Bollywood Star’ show she did, I remember towards the end of it the remaining contestants had to go to India and whilst the others were all ok with where they were staying Sofia decided it wasn’t good enough for her and checked herself into a 5* hotel instead. She also b*tched a lot about the others, saying the person who won only won cos she was fat etc. I don’t know if it was insecurity or just jealousy but she was the only one on that show who acted that way.
I think the whole family is messed up tho, I don’t think the others turned out ok, I mean the 15yr-old brother driving illegally from Gravesend in Kent to Brighton (over an hour by car) with Mum, kinda suggests she let him get away with a lot, doesn’t it?? Also if it’s true he held a knife to her that’s also obviously something he could be arrested for as well. I kinda have mixed feelings about the story, I see loads of girls react really badly to the way their parents have treated them (the only other desi person at my school also ran away from her home and went off the rails for a couple of yrs as well tho now she is ok) and like someone else already said if the parents were so unhappy with her why didn’t they just walk away rather than threaten her etc (is it’s true)?? What she’s done doesn’t justify violence.
Regarding Sara’s point about the parents being crazy strict but letting the sister divorce her husband, their own marriage fell apart and mother and father ended up seperating as well so could be sister’s marriage breakup happened after this or the family was fragmenting already, if it was already falling apart or parents living seperately there wouldn’t be nearly as much pressure to hold together the daughter’s marriage as well.
I read it, quite sickening.
I would take this story with a grain of salt. she seems like an attention seeking person, and not above lying or exaggerating to get her self out there.

This story is not because she was a Muslim...Its because her Father was An Abusive man...regardless of the religion. Domestic Emotional /physical abuse. He used ISLAM as a reason for his actions. It is unfair to try tp blame religion for a dysfunctional family and parents.
