Really? Wow, I've never heard/experienced that - but my GPS is the built-in one, not a portable one. My brother also has a TomTom and his sometimes acts weird. I am not sure if it's TomTom that acts weird or if it's the portable GPS.
thats because behind the scene, your built-in GPS is being aided by a feature called Dead Reckoning (DR) wherein the GPS module continuosuly reads certain vehicle parameters such as speed, angular velocity as well as time elapsed since the loss of actual GPS data from Sats to estimate or predict the current position of the vehicle on the road. Portable GPS units don't have this added functionality.
