My first ever "installing a new ROM" experience

Yes, so I have rooted a phone before but was unable to install a new ROM of my choice to the Galaxy S3 model I had at the time. Today, for the first time ever, I successfully installed a new ROM, the VirginROM v 3.1.2 that supports Android version 4.4.2. This is a Google Play Edition ROM and has amazing reviews and a seamless installation.

Well, why do it in the first place? I guess we have other threads on that topic but I suppose it’s a personal preference, mainly to super-customize my phone and get the best out of it! Some of you have complained about TouchWIz. Well, here’s a fantastic replacement where you get a clean device that allows you to have only what you truly need and by virtue of that itself, you’re running at much more efficiency. Battery life is extremely desirable.

So with something like this, you’re tapping into the extreme potential of your phone, and I would highly encourage you all to look into experiencing your mobile devices in their best ever form!

What language is above post in?
What does "rooting a phone" mean?
What is unique about the ROM you installed? Did you have to take out old ROM?

Re: My first ever "installing a new ROM" experience

Southie ji, I think I used very simple English. You should read other threads by the vaddey log of this forum. It goes over my head. They use crazy words that make me shiver in awe and disbelief.

Rooting a phone means, in very simple language, meddling with your phone so you gain super user access, advanced control of the phone's system. There's published, tried and tested methods of doing it for every kind of phone pretty much. The advantage of doing that is to rid your phone of the excess "bloatware" or garbage that phone manufacturers and service providers put on your phone, thereby enhancing it's performance and allowing you to carry out operations that regular users cannot experience.

You take it one step further and install a new ROM. My Galaxy S4 came with Samsung's TouchWiz. It's kinda boring and sluggish. (It's not really too bad, but let's just say we can do better). So someone told me about this new ROM and how it's gotten great reviews. There's several others but this performs without major glitches and really does bring out the best in your phone. So I thought I'd give it a shot.

And here I am.

Congrats Niks bhabhi....You are now one of the cool people. :D

Just to build on top on what you described about rooting is that in windows lingo you now have administrative rights on your phone to be able to go into the C:\windows folder and remove/modify anything.

Re: My first ever "installing a new ROM" experience

Thanks lady and gentleman. Very nice ex planstion. So rooting allows special access to phone. Something like our VIP lounge.

Can't wait.

:D

Re: My first ever "installing a new ROM" experience

You have doubts about my abilities to install a new ROM on my phone or on the implementation of a VIP Lounge? Is smoking allowed in the latter? Will there be Vodka? How about cupcakes? Salted peanuts?
