So I used very cheap fabric (deep purple/aubergine velour from Abakhan which is 1.30 a metre (x4) and then there was a 25% discount, buttons around 10p each, ribbons about £4.00 beads&acrylic gems around £3.00)
Overall I’m satisfied with the results… I couldve improved in about 20 different ways, but the dress is very much wearable (usually my perfectionist personality would force me to, with rage, throw unsuccessful project out of sight!). I made churidar sleeves and an a-line drop for the “skirt” part.
The colours in the photos aren’t perfect; but here they are:
Thanks guys. I'm in the middle of making a woolen long dress now, will post photos when I'm done. And I tried doing a full length photo but I can't manage to do it of myself without the proportions looking bad. I will have to wait till I wear it and theres someone to take a photo of me in it.
@muscat99 I haven't been sewing long, I was bought a sewing machine a year ago for my birthday, from my momma, and I used it once, and hated what I made and gave up. Then I went pak in April. got married. after 2 months the guy started back at work and I started sewing classes with my sister in law, went for a month every morning for two hours and hey presto, I have the basics down a little better. Then got back here and have in the past 2 weeks started making clothes for my return to pak. I'm starting my eid dress soon, expensive material, I hope I don't regret trying to make it myself!
Looking at the fabric I remembered I brought some black fabric about 2 yrs ago and completely forgot about it. I too wanted to get a long black dress made. Looking good tho
A side note.. Is it your feet at the bottom of your last pic (in black net) as they look scarily thin..
HAHA. Yeah they're my feet; they do look worryingly thin in the photo, but I assure you, I have square feet, that's just the angle. I'm just under 9 stones and 5"5/5"6 I'm FINE I swear.
