~~My experience with the designer advertised by stoppit~~

Hi ladies,

I thought it was about time for me to start a thread! I will go first.

I know my word doesn’t count for much because I’m advertising for my designer but I hope I’m a trusted member of GS. Those of you that know me since I joined, know that I joined looking for inspiration for my wedding clothes and for someone to make them.

I found my designer guy when I went to Lahore for wedding shopping and haven’t looked back since. I have never consider buying from any one or any where else. He never compromises on quality and that is really important for me.
I only have my PhD studentship to survive on and would not go with him if I thought his clothes weren’t worth the money - quality over quantity matters a lot for me. Another thing is that he ‘gets’ me and understands what I want without me having to explain too much. He also makes sure the kaam walay and tailors make the things right - which is no easy task!

I’ve never had a single complaint with him, nor have the other girls who have ordered from him, either directly or using me as the contact person, which I was happy to do. Just a shame that no one has written a review yet (none of them are GS regulars).

My Tai came over on Saturday with her elder daughter who is married. Her younger sister is getting married in mid August. I mentioned to her (bride-to-be) when i got back from Pak in Feb, that she should make her stuff from my guy but she wasn’t interested as she very much does her own thing.

Her mum and sister after seeing my clothes for the first time in real life, said they really regretted not taking my offer seriously. Since they hadn’t spoken to me themselves (just had heard about him through bride-to-be) they weren’t sure how he would be to work with. After speaking to me about how I order with him (emails, phone) and knowing how bad my urdu is! And seeing how our (mine, my sister’s, my mums) outfits came out, I know next time they definitely will not hesitate to order from him.
Cousin’s moomani was also at our house that day and said she didn’t understand why they hadn’t ordered from him. I had also put this Aunty in contact with him when she was in Pak in December and she had all her tailoring done from him.

Bride-to-be had ordered her lengha from Chiffons ages ago and they said they would have it ready by mid July and they still haven’t started it! They also really messed her about with materials - she wanted any chiffon jamawar for her duputta and they said they couldn’t source any kind (???). She’s paying 2grand for it and her mum is really upset and annoyed. It’s going to be one more threat and then they are asking for their money back and buying something ready-made, which I know my cousin is going to be devastated about. There’s no time to have anything custom made now.

I really can’t explain how impressed my extended family have been with his clothes and I never worry that any one else who orders from him will have any complaint. At the end of the day, it’s partly my reputation on the line too.

I’m just waiting for my oufits for her wedding to arrive! I told him to put them on the back burner as I don’t need them for another 6 weeks yet.

For one, I wanted a copy of a HSY oufit. As it was, it was waaay too heavy and expensive for me if I wanted it copied exactly. So I re-designed it to have self silver/grey jamawar (original, not dyed) with some light kaam done on top of it instead. He spent 2 weeks trying to source the kind I wanted.
In the end he said ‘Baji, I can send you the swatches I have found so far but I’m not in love with any and I don’t think that you will like them either’. For me, he didn’t need to send them - I trust his taste. So I decided that I will have that outfit made another time when I can afford to have it made as-is.
For now, I have gone with someone that can be copied more easily without compromising.

The fact that he gives me honest feedback about these sorts of things, really matters a lot to me. He could have just used the first kapra he came across and used that and made the outfit.
This isn’t just something he does for me, he puts the same effort in with every client.

I think that’s enough gushing for now! :woho:

Re: ~~My experience with the designer advertised by stoppit~~

Hi stoppit.

I have had two suits made from your recommended designer and they are turning out fantastic. can you please upload the pics for me as i dont have enough posts to upload any pics.
I have to say at the begining i was abit reluctant as u cant really trust people who you dont know but i took the risk and im not disappointed one bit. Everytime i txt the designer i would get a response back within 10mins doesnt matter what time i txt him. please upload the pics i sent you so people can see for themselves.

Thanks H33na.

Here are some pictures of one of your outfits, still on the frame as you know:

I believe this is based on a Sobia Nazir design:

H33na contacted me some time ago (you can see in my advertisement thread) and I put her in contact with my designer and I believe things are progressing well!

Please keep us updated about the fabric and fitting when you receive them!

I look for someone who can give me simplicity, elegance, with the best quality. However, more important than that is having a trustworthy designer. Stoppit and I have been chatting and getting to know each other, for quite a while now, so not only did I already know her, but she had also told me about her experience with him long ago, and showed me pictures of her beautiful dresses. Therefore, I knew he could give me what I wanted better than anyone else.

I sent her a complement of what I wanted, which included 4-5 different pictures, with very specific instructions pulled out from each and I explained every detail (btw, all this is only for one dress). Before she could pass it on to Kamran, we voice called, because she wanted to exactly understand what I was looking for. We talked for a good hour and a half or so, discussing every detail on the dupetta, kameez, and shalwar. My concern was the material of the kameez, since I did not want the typical jamawar or banarsi, I had told her that if he was unable to find the material itself, that color, or in the best quality, I would not go through with the order. Within hours of us discussing the outfit, she got back to me, and let me know that he knows exactly what I want, and will take pictures of it and email me, before making the decision to start the dress. And yes the next day I had 4 pictures in my inbox of just want I wanted in different shades which I had mentioned.

Can’t wait for my dress:wub:!

The dress construction will start tomorrow, so when I have the end product, at the end of this month, I will finish my review:).

p.s Can I just say, I am the pickiest person ever, from what color thread should be used for doing kaam for the dupetta, to what color/material piping and in what order (since at one place I want double piping), to the exact placement and type of kaam, but some how they dealt with me very well:D and were very attentive to my needs and likes!

Re: ~~My experience with the designer advertised by stoppit~~

Yup! Gaia and I have been chatting and getting to know each other for a while now. Until she recently mentioned that she wanted to have something made I had totally forgotten that that’s the reason she had contacted me in the very beginning!

Although I mainly put clients in direct contact with the designer, there have been a few that have requested me to help out as they didn’t feel confident that they could get their ideas and selections across in Urdu. Since I am doing this purely because it’s something I enjoy but don’t really have that much time to devote to it, I decided just to take on one or two orders through me at any one time.

I’m sure Gaia’s Urdu is way better than mine so in this case it was just a preference of going through someone you feel comfortable talking to.
It’s been great working with her and she had the awesome idea that we should Skype to discuss all the details. She’s very thorough and has made the design process very easy for both me and the designer as there’s no ambiguity in what she wants.

Since she’s placed her order well before needing the outfit, he has had time to be able to show her photos of the materials/colours before getting started on the work.

I’m crossing my fingers that her outfit turns out as she envisions but I’m not really worried as nothing has been left to chance!

Nice design whats its cost for uk size8? r you working on commission with sobia nazir?
