I’m a designer myself, but I frequently need to buy pret for my daily wear as well as the many occasions and events us desis love to have, and because I only produce formals and semi-formals (I dont like embroidery much on myself, like to keep it simple) I cant make too many pieces for myself. I met Mehreen at a party in the beginning of this year and she had an exhibition the next week at the Forum, a mall in Clifton. I went there and loved her stuff, because her casual wear was so interesting and the combinations of prints and colors were very good. What was better was the fact that she was using pure fabrics for her work and they were priced very well. Other outfits under Rs.5000 were also available, although they werent fully pure, but I’m in the same field as well and I know how impossible it is to create items at such a low cost even with less expensive items.
Anyways I thought I should include some of her work in my exhibition in London. I picked out three items from her collection and took it with me and all three were very well received. Two literally flew off the rack and one only stayed a couple of hours longer. Photos of the items are as follows:
As you can see the model was having a ball wearing the outfit, and I don’t blame her, Mehreens penchant for combining colors in unusual combinations really came out in this outfit. What was more was that I received many many orders on these very outfits, which says a lot for them as well. You can’t see the last outfit well though in the photos, I was holding it up for a client to see. It had emerald green and purple banarsi trimmings on the bodice back and front, with embroidered pattis on the bottom, on a stretchable satin.
This month I needed to buy a whole lot of shirts to wear as daily wear during my trips around the country for different shoots next month, so I ask her to make 3 outfits for me. Here are two of them (dont mind the quality of the photos):
I absolutely loved them because not only the colors were funky and the cuts were different, but the fitting was amazing. This was the first time I had something made for myself by her and I only got the outfits last night. I’m a large size and I have to be careful about what I wear, but both outfits fit so perfectly well on me. I will take photos wearing them and post them as well here. All in all I personally felt this was a good experience and it didnt even put a dent on my wallet. For those who want their daily wear made by her, I would suggest that you let her play with colors herself. I’m uber finicky about everything in my outfits but she convinced me to let her design the dresses herself and I am very happy with the result. I saw the third outfit as well and it is amazing, will post photos of it on Friday!
p.s. she has an outlet as well though I havent been there yet. Those living in Karachi can get in touch with her and go there
@clothesmad : Yes you can, and I paid Rs.4900 for the block printed with black and white shirt and Rs.1900 for the brown one and orange one. You could tell her your colors, your styles and if you have any concerns in terms of shape and give her a budget and she’ll work with it. The prices are literally nothing.
@SadiaB : heheh yeah Im still a girl at heart Ill be wearing them in a couple of weeks so will post those photos as well once Ive worn them. Let me know which item your sister liked and which ones you thought were removed (the ones I did remove have been added in the latest post on my thread because the retailer didnt want to show the photos until the exhibition itself)
Heres a photo of the outfit that I had changed a little for myself. Love colors!
thankyou so much xenab for your overwhelming feedback. it is my pleasure to work with you and design dresses that you have appreciated so much. Your appreciation for my dresses is definately a compliment as you are an amazing designer yourself. My motive is to make dresses that satisfy people's every day demands for clothing. i work with both formals and casuals and my prices are definately affordable. Hope to get more orders from you and other clients too.thanks again, takecare :)
