My Electrolysis Journey

I have a electrolysis diary on another forum but I thought I should make one here too if it helps anyone.

Initially I had decided to have laser done on my forehead however after reading stoppits posts I chose to go with electrolysis.

I stopped all temporary methods of hair removal to see what I was dealing with as recommended by stoppit, it was hard but I did it!

I had my first session yesterday, it was a 5 hour long session which I did find it to be intense but I soldiered on. My main priority was my forehead and we spent a total of 3 hours on it. Also worked on my upper lip for 40 mins, and my eyebrows for the remaining time.

When I got up in the morning I washed my face with surgical soap, I had a 5 hour train journey to get to my Electrologist. Reason why I travelled so far is because the Electrologist I went to had a Apilius platinum machine, now the machine alone isn’t enough but you should also see the skill of the Electrologist, great skills paired with a great machine equals amazing results.

I did take a pain killer as well but that was because I was getting a migraine. It may have helped with the pain but i can’t say for sure as I’ve not had electrolysis done before.

Before we started electrolysis my Electrologist wiped the area with antiseptic wipes, the modality used was picoflash, she worked on my hairline and sides (between eyebrow and hairline) for 1.5 hours, she then moved onto the middle brow which she worked on for 30 mins. We had a break for half an hour for food and then started on the forehead again for another hour. After this we worked on upper lip for 40 mins and then the rest of the time was spent on the forehead, and then eyebrows.

When we finished she applied Aloe Vera gel to the treated areas, it was very cooling and soothing.

I had to use EMLA for the upper lip as it is a sensitive area.

Unfortunately we didn’t get a clearance but got most of the visible hairs, I will be seeing her again in march iA.

When I got home I washed my face with surgical soap again and applied iodine.

In the morning I washed my face with the soap and then applied aloe Vera.

I still have swelling on my face which is normal as I did have a lot of work done on my forehead.

I have some whiteheads and small pin prick scabs which should fall of on their own.

Other things I did was drink plenty of water, the more moisture in the skin the better. I had also started taking multi vitamins few months before starting treatment as advised by my Electrologist.

I will add before and after photos tomorrow as I’m posting from my phone right now.

Re: My Electrolysis Journey

Well zimzimma, you have had some excellent work done by a very skilled electrologist.

It needs to be said though that the way you have gone about it is because it was possible with her. This is not always the case. Firstly, she was proven, so you knew you would be paying for permanent results and that she would not damage your skin. Otherwise it would have been a folly to just jump in, in this way. Secondly, she is capable of treating your hairs after you had left them alone for sometime, meaning a good portion would have been telogen hairs... many electrologists believe these follicles cannot be killed until they are in anagen. Thirdly, her equipment and skill meant that it was not unsafe for her to do such prolonged work in one area.

Electrolysis in the right hands is the most effective permanent hair removal method but people need to be aware that it's not a matter of just going to the first or nearest person. Thorough research is required and, as you had to do, one might be required to travel to get the kind of treatment they need.

Readers need to be aware that 5 hour sessions on the face are not necessarily typical and may not be safe.

^ Thanks stoppit for clarifying the finer bits, I deffo do not want to mislead readers into thinking that long sessions are a good idea with any Electrologist.

It was thanks to stoppit and my own research (but majority of it was me bugging stoppit) which helped me make up my mind and take the plunge.

I cannot wait to complete my mini project.

Re: My Electrolysis Journey

Here are the before photos

Here are the after photos straight after treatment

And here are some photos 1 day post treatment (you can see I still have swelling, also have got whiteheads and pinpoint scabs)

Re: My Electrolysis Journey

Here are some photos from today (2 days post treatment) as you can see I still have swelling, I have swelling on my left eyelid as well now. The whiteheads have almost cleared up.

Re: My Electrolysis Journey

Not many people display the warts an' all photos of post electrolysis because it can scare people off.

Given that the forehead had about 3 hours work performed, the post treatment reaction is very good and you can't really expect less that this. Just comparing the day after and the second day photos you can see how the skin is recovering. It will continue to do so day by day and quite often (providing the work is sound), once it has fully recovered it looks better than pre-electrolysis.

I can't wait to see photos in 2-3 months. One thing you will notice is that the growth from the follicles which could not be treated this time (since the hairs in them were not present) will fill in areas nicely. Such as make the hairline softer. Then it is a matter of fine tuning the work.

My Electrolysis Journey

Yeah the photos can be off putting, I just want to show everyone that its not all fun and games, electrolysis DOES have temporary side affects which DO go away.

I'm glad that the white heads are disappearing.

I will prob take pics now when it will be 5 days post treatment and then every week to see how I'm getting on? What do u think to that?!

Re: My Electrolysis Journey

If you have time I guess!

I think 7 days post treatment and then every 2 weeks is more than enough. After the initial healing period, things are slower.

My Electrolysis Journey

Day 3: forehead and eye area swollen
Day 4: eye area swollen
Day 5: pin prick scabs on upper lip have fallen off with no hyper pigmentation.

Re: My Electrolysis Journey

Thanks for sharing this info :)

Where is this electrolysist located?

My Electrolysis Journey

She's located in Glasgow on Thursday only and the rest of the week she works in Oban, Scotland.

My Electrolysis Journey

Day 6: swelling completely went away
Day 7: still have pin prick scabs on forehead

I went back to my usual routine today of witch hazel and rose hip oil.

Re: My Electrolysis Journey

Jazakillah for your posts and for sharing your pics - it has been really helpful and most ppl that are/would be considering such treatment would really appreciate it. Hope it all works out for you.

Pls do keep us posted with your progress.

Lastly - was it painful?

Re: My Electrolysis Journey

Thanks for replying. :)

Do keep updating this thread!

It wasn't painful as such, the sensation was weird, however if you were to go to someone with a older machine you probably wouldn't be able to handle a 5 hour session and it may not be safe either.

Re: My Electrolysis Journey

How are you doing zimzimma? Any update on your progress?

Re: My Electrolysis Journey

oh yes, would love to know how the mini-project is coming along!:)

My Electrolysis Journey

Hi guys, haven't been on here much hence the late response. I am due to have another session next month with my electrologist. I will take before and after pics for you :)

Re: My Electrolysis Journey

Hey, thought I’d update you on my progress. I haven’t had a session in about a year but all treated areas don’t have much hair left. I have some fluff that I just bleach but I will probably head back to have another session to clean up.

Re: My Electrolysis Journey

Good to know - how long is it take you to get to this level?
