This was a statement given by my current boss (Vice President, for a Major Multinational firm in Canada). We were just having some informal chat in his room. He also went on to say “My mom used to work at home making cookies and I used to deliver them all over town on my bike”… HE was mentioning all this, with pride !
Now this has nothing to do with poverty or living standards or any other falsafaa
The thing that struck me immediately was, what a difference it is . Like in Pakistan, being a plumber or a carpenter or a Qasai is generally looked down upon. People outside of their family wont even marry with them. A daktar can not think of marrying a girl whose brother is a carpenter or a qasai.
The only professions with some respect are Daktar, engineer, Bank ki mulaazmat or PRIVATE service even a clerical job in some company is supposed to be a more respectable job then working as a carpenter or a Barber or a Qasai.
Are we following the HINDU caste system, in a modified form ? in the Islamic Republik of Pakistan.
