My Computer windows...

When i click on My computer icon it takes long time to show drives in the window about 3 or 4 min searching.

The same problem in MS office (excel, word) when i click on title bar to open a file from a specific folder.

How can i solv this problem???

OS. win XP Home edition

Re: My Computer windows...

It seems, you windows is searching for some important files which cannot be located.

You could try the following:

Virusscan and an online virusscan (like Panda virusscanner)

Download : Tauscan trojan scanner

Download: Adaware for spyware,

After this browse to c:\windows\prefetch. Select all and delete all files
Now run----> start----->accessoires--->system tools ----> disc cleanup.

After this restart. Initially the system will be slower. But a second restart should do the trick. If not, there is no other solution the re-installing the windows :D

Re: My Computer windows...

do you have any network drives?
or a CD in the CD rom?

try removing network drives or CD rom and try again.

also go to "My Network Places" and delete all the icons there and try again

Re: My Computer windows...

Is it a recent ailment or is it from the start? Which processor do you have? How much RAM? Does you machine have a RAID configuration? How many logical and physical drives do you have?

Have you played with the size of your page file recently? Do you regularly defrag your HDs? When you defrag, does the degrag shows fragmented system files (usually shown as immovable)?

Have you installed your chipset drivers (which include IDE/SATA drivers)? DO you have multipe toolbars installed in your explorer (e.g., Yahoo! toolbar, Google toolbar, etc).

When you double-click on "My Computer" and you are waiting for the folder view to open, does the floppy disk drive LED lights up? If it does, open you antivirus program and disable "scan floppy on access" or similar option. If you don't use FDD, disable it from the BIOS.

There could be other reasons as well, including some of the ones already mentioned above. Happy fixing!
