This hasnt happened to me , but I know someone who is undergoing this situation …I think this is a difficult office situation that many of us will have encountered at some point in our careers..
So your colleague , gets promoted and becomes your manager .. how do you deal with this change of relationship?
most people find it really difficult to remain positive through this and end up not listening to the manager or start developing ill feelings which can affect their own performance ..
It depends how cordial have you been to them before you became manager. I was first one to be promoted to the management in my department out of a big team. But I already had earned respect of all , they all saw me as guru. I was not disrespectful to anybody ever and very professional in my demeanor.
So they thought I deserved it and respected the decision of upper management.
Then luck has it that out of all those colleagues , after a few years one became my manager we still had cordial relationship. He has moved on to even higher position and to another department and is my mentor now.
The point is those who are management material know how to behave in every situation.
