That is an enamel cast iron pot, also called a Dutch Oven. They are excellent for recipes that require slow braising at an even temperature. I love mine!! You have to use the correct utensils though..so so not use metal that can scratch or nick the enamel coating inside, only plastic or wood!!! Some of the American foods I make in this are:
Chili
Chicken 'n Dumplings
Pot Roast
Soups, Stews, Chowders (potato soup is excellent!)
