My mom is in Pakistan for the next couple of weeks, and she put some thawed-out chicken in the fridge and told me to make Chicken Jalfrazi out of it by looking at the directions on the back of the Shan Masala Box. Here’s a picture of what I made. It didn’t look like what was on the front of the box. It tasted alright. I’m not a huge fan of Chicken Jalfrazi - the chicken is too dry =.
Anyways, I’m sending my mom this picture. It’s the first time I’ve ever made a desi dish with absolutely no help.
If any of you lot havn't got anything nice to say or enjoy offending people just to get your kicks, then can i suggest you do it elsewhere. No-one asked you to join this page , and pakora ( or whatever your name is) seeing as though you can't stand indians, pakistanis and their food/ culture etc, then i am baffled as to why you registerd with gupshup. There are plenty of anti- asian websites on the net so i suggest maybe you should register with them instead. It may be better suited to people like yoursef. Phatima, your dish looks really nice well done, and please ignore waste of time comments from people who have nothing better to do.
Garam masala makes you smell + does not digest..thats why life expectancy in pak/ind is 65 where as in the west is 85.
Even though this post is 2 years old, I barely came across it and I just have to respond.
First of all, you obviously don't under the true concept of life expectancy. It doesn't mean how long people are expected to live, but is instead the AVERAGE age of death. Basically, it takes the age of everyone who has died and makes an average out of it. It accounts for all the dead infants, children, women, as well as murder victims, war victims, illness, poor sanitation, poor nutrition, etc. So if in a village there are five people and four die at age 100, and one dies as an infant at age 0, the average life expectancy would be 80. In Pakistan, people still don't have access to hospitals, medications, vaccines, etc. Many many women still die on the birthing table, many babies die as newborns. As medical advances reach the rural population of Pakistan, hopefully we'll see an increase in life expectancy as well. It has nothing to do with spices in foods. Fat consumption, sure, but not spices.
You are also ignorant to the potential shifa in herbs and spices. They are filled with my many compounds that scientists are barely beginning to understand. For example, did you know that scientists are seeing a link between consumption of turmeric (haldi) and improved brain function in seniors? That it may acutally protect against Alzheimer's? Haldi is already known for it's antiseptic properties as well. Anecdotally, even I've noticed that desi old folks don't get Alzheimer's the way goray do. You talk about indigestion, but you should know that ajwain actually aids in digestion? Or that kalonji improves kidney, liver and lung function (mentioned both in Hadith and in the Bible?)
So instead of being a self-hating Pakistani, why not do a little research before knocking down your mother's cooking?
