I am able to catch only one a.m radio station on my car radio here in Washington D.C area and it’s AM570, a Conservative radio channel. . In the morning Laura Ingram is on and at noon while picking up kids I hear Glen Beck. Often on both these talk shows Islam and Muslims are discussed.. amost always in highly unfavorable terms.
The topic on May 23 was the new statistics that have just came out saying that 26 % of Muslim American men (under the age of thirty )condone suicide bombing against civilians. Laura want to talk about this at length and then she said something that she and Glen Beck often say in their shows:"What I want to know where the moderate Muslaims are? Why don’t we hear them speaking agianst it?
The second comment that she made on her show more then once was " I think if Radical Islam comes to America, all the middle of the road Muslaims who are living peacefully are going to wake up and they are going to say “Oops I better do some thing against these radicals othrwise I may have to give up my good life here in America (as a result of backlash)”
After I droped my kids at school, I canceled my plans for the rest of day, went staright home and and picked up the phone.

I commend your courage to call these bigotted freaks. Honestly, I avoid these shows at all because of the misinformation they spew. Ingram is talking about the survey done by Pew Research. You (and everyone) should look up the survey online and read it for yourself, before reading the media's spin on it.
American Muslims support suicide bombings if the bombers are living under adverse and oppressive conditions. People get desperate and do such things. Such support for them should not be surprising to anyone.

Personally it takes a lot of courage to face or voice off against such Right wing conservatives and especially those who are on a radio show. The worst is the idiot out of Florida who has a syndicated show. Who can ignore Rush Limbaugh? Those who have heard him even once, learn to detest fire spiting talk show hosts such as him that build their popularity among ignorant listeners via defamation of the accused. And that is all they want. Popularity.
Now having said that, let me share with you what my stance is on all of this. Having my own experiences in the US during the past 10+ years ranging from the role of VP in a large Islamic center in the US, and an active member of the community, I can tell you this. I don't agree with bowing down and pretending to be a moderate that fits someone else's description. I won't dance to the drumbeat of these neo-conservatives. Where are the moderate muslims? They are everywhere I will tell them. The problem is that you through your tubular vision or coated binoculars only see RED!
Islam is moderate. The Quran calls the Ummah of Muhammad SAW as "Ummah tul Wusta" ~ the nation on the middle ground (moderate).
The problem is that when such stats are collected, the results can be interpretted in many ways. If you take a poll such as this to court, legal experts and lawyers alike would have a field day with them. They are very subjective. Statiscally sound sampling that will hold up in legal disection are few and far between.
Radio hosts such as this need to be told one thing. Did you go and visit a mosque yourself? How many suicide bomb supporters did you find? And tell me the agency and sampling error of the study. Tell me the area where they sampled. Do you know what are the muslims concentration areas in the US? Do you know how many mosques/centers are there in the US? Do you know membership statistics of these? Do you know who supports these institutions financially? 99% of all centers in the US are supported mainly from donations of the working class professionals who work steady 9-10 hours jobs in the field of Science, engineering and medicine.
They will never have an answer for this stuff. At the end whether they bow down or just dig up more mud will depend on what level of a slime digger they are. Don't end up wrestling with a pig!
Muslims have a tough task these days. And that is not to show any sympathy to such claims. They need to be refuted and true Islam needs to be explained without an appolgetic tone.

Very good answer. I myself being a board member of my mosque totally agree with you. The key is to form crevices in the information they hold or prove it is unauthentic and they loose ground. Debating with them as if what they are saying or the information they hold on to is right puts them at an advantage to argue.

Antumul and USResident:It is one thing to take these as arguementative debates and come up with counterpoints and questions. We all can come up with questions that will stump the other side on any issue.But there IS a problem. You have to recognize it, face it and deal with it. If you have the courage perhaps do something about it. Ingram and limbaugh and others are simpleton bigoted good for nothing hot air filled jackasses whose existence is probably why there is global warming I these vermin exude more methane than all cattle in the world. But igniore them and the problem still exists. Every day there's a bunch of muslims that go bomb others. It sounds crude but true. Look at any paper headline any day. For some reason I missed your point here. This thread is no debate or discussion. What Sr. Hina did is commendable, no doubt. My simple opinion is that numbers or percentages can be made to mean anything, so its how you present it. I am not against calling up radio shows and answering calls but there is no need to be apologetic about anything. If you want to discuss what steps we muslims in North America can take to preach a proper image of Islam then open a thread and I’ll be there to participate and again this should not be a debate but something constructive.

Good call henna. Its a bit strange that Laura person talks about muslim luther kings, bit hard to have sensible muslim leaders fielding muslim countries with all the meddling from abroad. I have also heard Laura Ingram on KLIF 570AM in Dallas (Texas) metroplex. Honestly, I was quite fed up with the misinformation she and others on that radio spread about Muslims and Islam. I never had the chance to call her despite being a great despiser of these people but I def. admire your courage.
There's also a host on the same station whose name starts with Michael. He usually comes late night and he does nothing but defaming the Middle East and Muslims. He's one of those people who get advantage of the average Americans who have little or no knowledge about Islam and/or Muslims.

What can be done about it? Lets start by cleaning up our own backyards first. I have yet to meet a muslim who treats other muslims with kindness and supports their education and progression forward so that they can live a comfortable life. All I hear is incessant back-biting, scheming against one another because I-deserve-to-have-that-pretty-shalwaar-kameez-not-her, the typical I'm-going-to-pull-my-bahu-out-of-her-hard-earned-career-because-it-makes-me-feel-better-about-my-fat-useless-behind, and the typical "So, how much are YOU making?"
Muslims are having to commit suicide bombings and do all this stupidity because they have no other choice? You do have a choice. You can stop being an idiot.

When listening to the bigoted right wing radio talk shows such as Sean Hannity (ABC, NYC), Neal Boortz (WSB, ATL), Rush and the bad arse of all, Michael Savage, please remember that all these shows serve one purpose: Entertainment. That is the first goal, purpose and they work towards that for ratings.
