My beef with the worldcup

This is probably one of the most boring world cup ever played. I am pretty sure even 1975 world cup had more competitive games. Except for the few games between minnows and Aus vs NZL game, all of the games have been one sided affairs. There was hardly any game between major countries which went in 49th & 50th over.
I was hoping that Quarter final will be different. It turns out that quarter final was even worst. All the Quarter final games were either over by lunch break or by 20th over of the chasing team.
When it was announced that World Cup will be down under, I was excited that we would get to see some exciting games on bowler friendly wickets. Drop in pitches, smaller grounds, rules favoring batsman and huge gap between talents of teams have killed the game. ICC needs to do something urgently or they might just kill the ODIs.
May be I am old fashioned. May be new generation of cricket fans only want to see fours and sixes. But I cant just get my head around the fact that Martin Guptil ( with a test batting average of 29) now has highest score in ODI in the worldcup.
Only things that kept me going has been India’s performance. But that should not be the only reason to watch cricket.I will not be surprised if people in SL, Pak , West Indies & England have already switched off their TV.

Re: My beef with the worldcup

Ofcourse 1975 there wasnt any big money involved... there was no concept of big-3 .. there was no monarchy of richer countries in ICC..

Now the gap b/w 2-3 countries v/s rest is huge. So no competition either.

Re: My beef with the worldcup

It is good to switch off the TV when no game going on.

Re: My beef with the worldcup

All the four teams that have made the SFs are strong in batting (not so sure about NZ but they have taken full advantage of home conditions so far. Grounds in NZ have shorter boundaries compared to Australia), sides that bat with fluency, flair and confidence. India's bowling is the weakest of the four teams that have qualified but it is just about adequate for the ODIs.

Don't be surprised if the SFs are one sided affairs too esp. if one of Warner, Finch, Maxwell, McCullum, Raina, AB etc. gets stuck into the opposition

Re: My beef with the worldcup

with 3-countries controlling the ICC, you'll see more of this, sadly.

Expect them to sideline the other countries. Already see a lot of cricket for these 3 teams being planned, almost nothing for the rest

Re: My beef with the worldcup

You’re right. England are playing a staggering 17 test matches over the next 10 months!! Pak don’t play that many in 2 years.

Re: My beef with the worldcup

And it is not the first time actually that we have seen so many one-sided games in a world cup.

Have a look through the previous world cups e.g. Both the semifinals in 1975 were one-sided affairs

Re: My beef with the worldcup

Do pray that the final is not a one side affair like it has been since ages!

Re: My beef with the worldcup

Pretty sure the wives will be attending. Slim chances of an affair regardless of number of sides.

Re: My beef with the worldcup

10 > 2. Of course a England plays more in that duration.
